This camera is a pocket camcorder aimed at the youtuber/vlogger market, it is not a full blown all singing all dancing device for high speed sports recording.

The 1080p mode is only 25 fps so this is only of use if you are sat down pretty still and talking because any real movement will cause the recording to look poor.

The 720p mode is 50 fps and this the mode I use with my camera, it allows for enough movement and should easily be able to be used to follow a child moving around or playing.

Indoor performance is good compared to my laptops in built webcam, bush TVD552 camcorder, HTC desire phone recordings. As long as you have a room light and a lamp behind the camera your recordings will be like they would be in bright daylight, or if you just have an overhead room light performance is still good. Audio quality is brilliant for such a little camera, it is clear and loud , however I have only tested indoors.

I have the blue model and the colour is gorgeous.

The device is controlled using a 3 inch touch screen, this is a resistive screen so takes a little gettings used to actually having to apply pressure if you have come from a capacitive screen (such as all high/mid end phones).

Uploading to the PC is super duper easy and involves only popping out the cameras inbuilt USB and plugging it in ... done!

A camcorder fit for an average user with no real need for high quality.
It's sized like an average mobile phone and takes pictures and videos of a similar quality, perfect for gigs, concerts and other social events that you don't want to risk losing (or someone stealing) something expensive
A 16Gb card (not included) gets you roughly 3 hours of video and 5500 photos, although rotating the camera for landscape mode quality drops from 5mp to 2.7mp and you'll get nearly 10,000 photos
The battery lasts for around 40 minutes (video) so you'll need to recharge before worrying about clearing space.
The images and video are grainy and have no great detail so if you want anything sharp and defined buy something else.
You may struggle to use this in anything less than perfect lighting and a lack of flash for photos lets this down further.
The software that comes installed on the camcorder is as easy to use as the camcorder itself, have a brew and click all the buttons and you'll figure it out in no time but if you don't like the 'try it and see' method the instructions in the box are more than enough and the software manual is a update through the program
The design is basic and it's the best way, only 1 actual button on the device and that's to turn it on and off, the rest of the buttons are all on the touch screen and are easy to use
The microphone and speaker are on the top nicely out of the way and is decent quality recording and playback

I gave this a 3 star rating because as the 3 star says "its OK"
It's small enough and light enough to carry with you for and quick snaps or video but if you want something to record all your special moments then spend a bit more and get something with higher quality

This is a very straightforward camcorder which does exactly what it is supposed to do, and does it well. Don't expect all the functionality of a fully featured camcorder, but if you want decent video quality, including low light, and decent sound (no external mic socket) this is the one for you. At a nice price...

Ordered as a birthday present to myself. Something I'd been after for a while, but couldn't really justify it. No regrets. It does exactly what it says on the box. Unlike most JVC kit, it has easy to understand instructions and is VERY simple to use with top quality results for a hand-held cam-corder. It is also genuine HD quality, albeit from a small format camera. The only issue is with the PICSIO software which doesn't want to work on my computer, saying the graphics card is not up to scratch. Found a way round it, no more problems. Also plays direct to TV with the included leads.
