The Kitchen Waste Composter allows 100% home composting to be achieved by tackling the elements of organic waste that cannot be put into a traditional composter. All food waste can now be turned into nutrient rich compost. This includes meat, fish and dairy products as well as cooked foods. The process does not produce smells or attract flies. The Kitchen Waste Composter is an air-tight container which the food waste is placed in. Bokashi is added as a compost activator. This is a bran based material that has been prepared with EM, a mixed culture of naturally occurring friendly micro-organisms such as bacterias, yeasts and fungi. Over a period of a few weeks the food waste then ferments, allowing it to be safely composted or dug straight into the ground where it quickly breaks down. Liquid feed can be drained off during the fermentation process. This is alive with beneficial microbes and can be diluted as a plant feed or poured down drains to prevent algae build up and odours. 18 litre capacity; w320mm x d260mm x h370mm. Great bin - seems to be doing the job although took a while to get started. I have commented on the price of the bran in the bran feedback!!!
The spigot tap is a bit pitiful. Fiddly to screw in initially, it is now dangling rather uselessly and needs re-tightening...... resulting in some seepage. Fortunately our beagle seems to love it and laps some up every time she goes past. Doesn't seem to be doing her any harm - despite the fact that it's meant to be effective drain cleaner!!!
You do need to compress the contents down regularly. A plastering trowel is perfect. It also gives you a good idea of how squidgy everything is getting.
So - good bin but do make sure your are 110% happy that you've got the spigot tap screwed in firmly before you start putting stuff in there otherwise there's no rectifying it until tip-out time.

The bucket is adequate for the job - just a couple of design features that are a bit of a niggle: The lid is recessed, so collects rainwater if stored outside; and the handle feels quite flimsy - I've not yet tested with a full load.
Odours are simple to control by adding more EM-bran if required.
Overall, it seems an easy method for reducing the volume of biodegradable waste in roadside waste collections, especially for those with only fortnightly collections. A good product for Councils to offer at reduced cost!
