5.0 out of 5 stars Sublime Bach! 22 Nov 2011
By Robert K. Kennedy - Published on Amazon.com

I first heard this recording of Bach's Missae Breves by Ensemble Pygmalion online via AVRO Classik (a classical station in the Netherlands.) The Ensemble's director is Rafael Pichon who is a twenty-something French musician who produces the most sublime Bach performances I have heard in many a year.

Pichon approaches the music with exuberance and sound early music performance practice. There's nothing prissy about these interpretations either. Pichon manages to coaxe spine-tingling sounds out of his singers and instrumentalists. The notes leap off the page at you. I loved it.

Interestingly enough, iTunes had never heard of Ensemble Pygmalion. But Amazon was listed on their recording label's (Alpha) site. Bravo, Amazon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bach: Missae Breves, BWV 234 & 235 12 Oct 2010
By Bjorn Viberg - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
Bach: Missae Breves, BWV 234 & 235 is a recording under the direction of Raphael Pichon leads Ensemble Pygmalion on this recording from 2008. The booklet contains 38 pages. Mary Pardoe has written a very well-written essay on the work in question. It also contains many fine photographs from the time of the recording. The lyrics are available in Latin, English, German and French. Being a devout person this work of Bach speaks directly into my very soul. Highly recommended. 5/5.
