5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Journey 15 May 2014

This is just an amazing children's book, that teaches and explores. It reminds us all that there is so much more to the world than just our own little corner. This book gives you the opportunity to be able to talk to your child about all the wonders that we have in the world. I.J. opens the discussion and makes it a book that a child can ask so many questions and lets you explore these things even further. What a great way to teach your child about all the wonderful things on this big blue planet. I highly recommend reading this book and exploring with your child. The illustrations are adorable, I especially liked the kangaroos :-) As all children do ask "what's that", this book gives you the places to explore, and so much to teach them. Great read for a younger child which will leave them wanting to learn more about so many things. It reminded me of all the great books I read as a young child.
Thanks I.J.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant -- Your Children Will LOVE This! 12 May 2014

As a young boy, I LOVED picture books.

At the time I couldn't read much myself, so my kind mother would take the time to read picture books to me for hours on end.

As I've grown older I forgot what it could be like to be lost in the magic of beautiful illustrations and poetic words.

Thank you I.J., for bringing that back to me. ;-)

In Johnny & The Spaceboy, I.J. Stables brings a young boy's most fantastical dream to life -- and let's that young boy experience that fantastical dream for himself, through Johnny.

This is the perfect book for all young kids (ages 2 - 7) and they will surely come up to you again and again, asking to relive the amazing journey of Johnny And The Spaceboy.

You won't regret this purchase -- the joy of seeing your kids' faces light up at the sight of this book will be more than enough to compensate. :)

Enjoy!

1.0 out of 5 stars confusing, error riddled 15 May 2014

I am always on the hunt for things to read to my godchild. This was free today, I am glad I didn't pay:

The author did zero editing. For example, when Johnny and Spaceboy are flying over one of the seven wonders it says: "It's one of the seven. wonders of the world." Followed by "What are the other <no. Wonders?" And then: "We haven't got time to see them all today. They are <wonders." Said Spaceboy. I'll show you the pyramids."

Outside of the many grammatical errors, there are also huge issues with some of the facts. Spaceboy states that Africa and Australia are similar in size. Africa is FOUR TIMES larger.

Outside of all this, the illustrations seem to be drawn by a child, which would be fine but the author does not credit a child so we are left to assume the drawings are by them. The drawings themselves can be seen as odd (there is one where it looks like Johnny is grabbing his mother's butt, a creepy faceless president.)

The story itself, even if the above things were corrected, would not engage a child at all. The entire stoey is summed up as "A boy meets a spaceboy that spouts off random facts, some incorrect, from wikipedia then drops him off. The end."

I feel as if this was written in one night with zero correction. I have not read any other books by this author, but if this particular entry in their bibliography is any indication, they ought to take some online courses in story structure and grammar.
