Product Description

A lens hood is a must for every D-SLR photo enthusiast. A lens hood is primarily designed to avoid unwanted stray light from entering the lens by extending and shading the end of the lens. The bayonet connection makes attaching the lens hood to your lens very simple. In addition, since the end of the lens is extended, you also get the added benefit of some extra protection from accidental impact.

IMPORTANT

This lens hood is designed to replace the manufacturer branded version. A dedicated lens hood such as this, is specifically designed to match a lens or a number of lenses. Please take care when purchasing a lens hood for your lens, as some manufacturers have produced multiple versions of lenses with subtle changes to the lens model numbers and these lenses sometimes use different lens hoods. Just because the lens hood is designed for one lens does not mean it will fit a different version. If in doubt please check the manufacturers website to ensure you are purchasing the correct lens hood.

Horrified at the price of the original product in relation to that of the lens, I was pleased to spot this. I have tried at at the wider end and there is no perceptible cut-off. Therefore it will be adequate at the longer end of its range.

It is well flocked internally and shares the same bayonet fitting as the lens it is aimed for and can be reversed over the ens for storage.

A good choice and almost sensibly-priced.

I bought my second one and am happy with it. Both had a bad fit feeling. There were 2 small lumps of plastic that I had to shave smooth first. After that the lenshood slides on smooth and felt good.

If you want to know why lenshoods are so expensive, consider this: Although the plastic injection costs less than one USD, you need a mold to inject the plastic into. Those tools are enourmously expensive. You can cut cost by making a cheaper mold like used here, let's say a USD 5000 one. But then your products may suffer from occasional slight deformation and more often, bad fit due to pointy bits of plastic near the injection point. Cheaper molds also means that the injection points all too often appear in areas that are critical for a good working product. In this case right on the 2 bajonet ridges on the inside of the lenshood.

At a quarter of the official Olympus version, this has to be worth a go. Delivered fast and well packaged, and whilst it fits well, it is a very tight fit, which may loosen with age. Better than too loose though!

And a lot cheaper, cannot understand how Olympus can justify the price they charge for a piece of plastic. Fits reversible for carrying around and works perfectly.

This lens hood will not fit onto a 40-150mm 4/3rds Zuiko digital Olympus E series lens without considerable modifications.

firstly, you cannot attach it to the lens until the lens hood hole has been made 2mm larger in diameter.
secondly, it has also to be shortened by at least 1mm to allow the rim to engage behind one of the lens bayonets as there are no slots in the hood to engage and lock with all the bayonets on the lens.

Finally, it can only realistically be made to push fit onto the lens.

I have since purchased a used Olympus LH-61B in "as new" condition for less money than this one which fits and locks on perfectly.
This one has been discarded to the dustbin.

I wish I had not wasted my time with this after market product.

...and quite expensive for what it is. But that's the way of photography kit. What else are you going to do?

I bought this because it is much cheaper than the Olympus version but does a great job. No problems with fitting

The bayonet needed shaving in order to get it to fit properly but otherwise ok. Not made as well as the Olympus hood for the 45mm f1.8.
