Product Description

This lens hood is a low cost quality alternative to the Canon original EW-78E lens hood. A lens hood is a must for every D-SLR photo enthusiast. A lens hood is primarily designed to avoid unwanted stray light from entering the lens by extending and shading the end of the lens. The bayonet connection makes attaching the lens hood to your lens very simple. In addition, since the end of the lens is extended, you also get the added benefit of some extra protection from accidental impact.

This lens hood will only work on:
A. The exact lens or lenses shown in the product title
B. Lens/Lenses that use the exact manufacturer original part number

The Canon original is a positively ridiculous price, even this copy is pricey for what it is, but it is well made and and does the job very well.

I just bought this along with the 15-85 lens. The price for the genuine Canon hood (which, listen up Canon, REALLY SHOULD be included when you are paying several hundred pounds for a lens) is simply ridiculous. It's a piece of moulded plastic, not hand carved from unicorn horn.

This one from JJC is still pricey for a simple piece of plastic, but still much nearer a sensible price. It is well made, it does not feel flimsy, it fits on to the lens with a satisfyingly safe-feeling click, and it fits on reversed for easy stowing in your bag.

Very good. Only wish I had found these before I bought the genuine Canon hood for our 55-250 a few weeks ago!

Poor quality 10 Oct 2011
OK, so you probably get what you pay for, but this little piece of plastic isn't exactly cheap. It feels like poor quality plastic, but worse, there are these 2 little loose clip things which pop out. I'm not sure whether they are needed or not. It fits without them, but is too loose. This little plastic things already look bent and damaged and are hard to get in where they are supposed to go. Every time I try to detach the hood, too much force is required and one of them inevitably pops out. I'll probably end up using it without them, but it's loose, as I said. Pretty disappointed and having know, would have stumped up the extra for the genuine Canon product, which you know is going to be perfect. Lesson learned.
