My son is a real fan of the game Minecraft and so I was specifically looking for something a little unusual but related to the game to give him as a stocking filler this Christmas.
Minecraft is a game where you construct buildings and structures by placing different types of blocks, for example, bricks, earth, iron, gold etc. The graphics in the game are extremely simple, almost crude, but each different type of block is easily recognisable to anyone familiar with the game.
This t-shirt has each of the primary Minecraft blocks arranged in a layout resembling the traditional periodic elements table. Each block has a symbol underneath, again to make it look more authentic.
The t-shirt itself is made of good quality cotton and it is well finished with no loose ends or stray threads. The colour is a very solid black - unlike some other novelty t-shirts I've bought in the past where the colour was streaked.
I purchased a medium size and it was a generous fit and there were no signs of shrinkage after a couple of washes.
The main disappointment was that the Minecraft blocks were a transfer rather than being printed into the fabric. Whilst they looked bright and vibrant on opening the packet and lovely for the first wear, after washing a couple of times they have started to fade a little and are starting to crack in a few places. This has spoilt the overall look of the t-shirt.
Overall, my son was chuffed to bits with it when he opened it. He has had a lot of fun with friends (who also play Minecraft) identifying the different blocks. It is just a shame that I don't think it will continue to look good after a number of washes.
