Product Description

PI Grace Jones - committed to truth, justice and a pressing need to re-stock her larder - is asked to find a missing person. But her client Henry Summerstone has been blind for years. He has no idea of the name of the girl he is trying to trace, what she looks like, where she lives and works; in fact he's not even sure she is missing. But he's concerned about the whereabouts of the young jogger who talks to him on his solitary early morning walks, and he's offering cash - an offer Grace finds hard to turn down. Before long, she's got a lead on the girl - several leads as it turns out - but each time she gets close Miss X slips away. But Grace is a Girl who knows how to persevere and she struggles on, becoming entangled with squatters, invisible pigs, a 12 year old estate agent and the man of her dreams - who unfortunately seems also to be the man of his wife's dreams.

Since I've almost finished the alphabet series by Sue Grafton, I was looking for a crime novel with a similarly likeable female lead & entertaining plot. Grace Smith combines being a good PI with enough incompetence to be both funny and endearing. The plot is fast-paced with lots of characters. If you're looking for realism or a book to provoke deep philosophical thought, this isn't the place to find it; but if you want an entertaining read with a gripping plot - this is it. An ideal page-turner for a night in.

First book I've read by the author. Funny and smart mouthed private eye Grace Smith gets an job from a blind man to find a missing girl (JFK) that he (obviously) has never seen. This is the beginning of a fairly complex story that keeps up the pace all the way through. Dispite the twists and turns, its easy enough to follow and while it won't tax too many grey cells, its well written and keeps you turning the pages. The dialogue is smart and funny-sometimes very funny. It was nice to see a detective story that a-modern b-had a woman as the heroine and c-was set in England

I'm sure that there are other books that fit the above, but obviously I don't get out enough. Janet Evanovich is a more street-wise american version, I suppose,

Read it, its worth the effort.

Unbelievably funny! 8 Feb 2004
Format:Paperback
I had reservations about reading this book because it looked quite short and the blurb didn't sound too exciting. However, I enjoyed this book completely.

It follows Grace, an undercover agent who goes about her work in a sloppy, 'luck comes to those who wait' kind of manner. The plot is unexpected and there are so many twists it can be confusing! It was really hilarious and kept me giggling on my train journey!
