Product Description

This historical thriller stars Kevin Costner and features a powerful supporting cast, including Donald Sutherland, Jack Lemmon and Ed Asner. Upon examining the Warren Commission report on President Kennedy’s assassination, New Orleans district attorney Jim Garrison (Costner) suspects that there is more to the story than the public is being told.

From Amazon.co.uk

Not a John F Kennedy biopic, but a film of New Orleans' attorney Jim Garrison's investigation into the President's assassination, JFK is that rarest of things, a modern Hollywood drama which credits the audience with serious intelligence and ultimately proves itself a great film. Oliver Stone's film has the archetypal story, visual scale and substance to match; not just a gripping real-life conspiracy thriller, but a fable for the fall of the American dream (a theme further explored by the director in Nixon and Any Given Sunday). JFK doesn't reveal exactly what happened in Dallas on 22 November 1963--those who knew generally took their secrets to the grave--but marshals a vast wealth of facts and plausible theories, trusting the audience to draw its own conclusions. Following less than a year after Dances With Wolves (1990), these two epics mark the high point of Kevin Costner's career and the vast supporting cast here, including Gary Oldman, Kevin Bacon, Sissy Spacek and Donald Sutherland, is superb. Quite simply the best American political film ever made. --Gary S Dalkin --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

The perfect companion for all movie enthusiasts is THE ROMA VICTRIX WINE BEAKERCalix Imperium, Roma Victrix Pewter wine beaker

Oliver Stone's JFK, a conspiracy movie par excellence, a riveting, in which he tries to transform the details of every John F. Kennedy assassination theory of the past decades.

The movie's protagonist is Jim Garrison (well played by Kevin Costner, then at the height of his popularity), the New Orleans District Attorney. In 1967, Garrison conducted an unsuccessful prosecution of local businessman Clay Shaw (Tommy Lee Jones) for complicity in Kennedy's coldly calculated murder.

Though Shaw's connection to the murder is vague, it's still intriguing, for Garrison is using the trail as a pretext to promote his own theory that Lee Harvey Oswald (Gary Oldman) was only one of several gunmen involved. Moreover, he advances the proposition that Oswald might not have fired a single shot, as the latter claimed at the time of his arrest.

Though the theory and `facts" of Stone's film were dismissed by many politicians and viewers, JFK exerted huge impact. Indeed, a new legislation was introduced in Congress in March 1992, in a concerted struggle to release the files of FBI, CIA and other governmental agencies related to the Kennedy assassination, it was a major victory. .

It's to Stone's credit as co-writer and director that, despite the verbose nature of the narrative and lengthy running time (189 minutes to be exact), the film is largely engaging and provocative no matter what political camp you belong to.

JFK is one of those films that you can`t see just once. To absorb the complexity of the reams of information packed into such a "short" space of time, as well as appreciate the art of the filmmaker, you need to see it at least half a dozen times. Oliver Stone mixes fact and fiction, real and imaginary events and characters with such pannache that it`s sometimes very hard to distinguish between what is and is not true. But at least with this film it sturred up some strong emotions, aswell as reawakening people`s interest in the assassination, which ultimately resulted in thousands of previously classified documents related to the case being made public which can`t be a bad thing. Disappointingly there are no extras on the dvd which could have made it great, and I feel a missed opportunity by Oliver Stone, hence the 4 stars.

I was a very young student when JFK became president of the United States and though I was many thousands of miles away, like millions of others , I experienced a sense of despair when he was assassinated.
We had hoped for so much and suddenly it was all gone, brutally swept away in a seemingly senseless act.
Later, as the investigations ground on and the Warren commission ended in so much guff- despair turned to anger at the helplessness of ordinary people against the powerful forces that control society. I recall weeping then and as this film brought all that back so vivdly, I wept. again.
A wonderful film and a com[pelling testament to efforts of one man- Jim Garrison to discover the truth.

(THE FILM):JFK, Oliver Stone's powerful film about the shots heard round the world and the mystery that still surrounds them, is one of the most provocative movies of our time. In addition to its box office success, critical acclaim and awards, it played a major role in the national debate that led to the passage of the 1992 Assassination Materials Disclosure Act.
WHAT CAN I SAY:JFK IS A FILM THAT GET dealing with the actual assassination and the following cover up. Oliver Stone deals with this obvious hot potato with a even and gripping style, never directly pointing the finger, but giving the viewer the facts, and details in blistering, intelligent and head spinning fashion.Leading us to make our own conclusion to who was behind it. Kevin Costner has never been better as he carries out his investigation, but what really hits home is the actual footage of the fatal shooting, as you actually see the side of his head explode.
This is a long movie, but the running time is justified due to the onslaught of information given to the viewer. The film is fascinating, as it is shocking, and is one of the best films of the 90's.
The moment that news broke that Kennedy had got assassinated in Dallas.
you could say THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL
this film will take you to that day Where you will feel.every thing around you all confusion all the emotion and you will actually be in the middle of what really has happened?? JFK IS brilliant
This is more than a classic, this film cannot be ignored, or forgotten!
this film will stay in your ((Head)) as if you were ((THERE))
IT IS SIMPLY Unforgettable..!!!
