Product Description

Review
"Of the numerous books on JFK's assassination, many are dogmatic, speculative, or swamped by numbing detail. Fortunately, Kurtz offers a superior account. He has spent four decades researching the assassination, and the result is this balanced appraisal of the varying theories, from the long gunman-'magic bullet'-premise to those conspiracy theories that cannot be dismissed as the ramblings of kooks. Kurtz himself favors conspiracy and includes convincing evidence, from previously classified documents released after the 1992 President John F. Kennedy Assassination Records Collection Act, that reveals CIA, FBI, Secret Service, and Warren Commission cover-ups. Intriguing accounts bolstering the author's conclusions include details relating to Lee Harvey Oswald, the Cuban-Mafia connection, the bumbling autopsy of the slain President, and the controversial roles of Lyndon Johnson, J. Edgar Hoover, and Warren Commission members Arlen Specter and Gerald Ford. Highly recommended." - Library Journal (starred review) "A smart, engaging history of the stormy debate surrounding the death of President John F. Kennedy. This is a book you can trust on a topic fraught with controversy." - Douglas Brinkley, Baker Institute, Rice University "A skillfully balanced and up-to-date summary. If I were teaching a course on the JFK assassination, this book would definitely be near the top of my reading list." - Gerald D. McKnight, author of Breach of Trust: How the Warren Commission Failed the Nation and Why"

5.0 out of 5 stars The truth shall set you free, 31 Mar 2007
By Neal Parkinson (Lancashire, UK) - See all my reviews
This is a must-read book! It's the book that should have been written years ago but thankfully Michael L Kurtz has now done this and also come up with a masterpiece in the process. What better way to look at the JFK assassination that to present all the arguments, knowledge and more importantly the FACTS and then let the reader decider. An excellent and compelling read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Reasonably balanced, but sketchy at times, 19 Mar 2008
By Patrick Collins "pcollins114" (England) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I met Michale Kurtz at the University of Hammond in Louisiana in 1985. He's a reasonable authority on the assassination, but in my opinion he jumps to conclusions too easily on this subject. Like many authors who take the pro conspiracy stance, he asserts that the single bullet theory is nigh on impossible - it is not ! And that the fatal head shot may have come from the front - there is overwhelming and substantial evidence to refute this theory. He also does not give too much credence to the official conclusion that Oswald alone killed JFK, however there is substantial evidence to conclude beyond reasonable doubt that Oswald did kill Kennedy. A far better recent book by Peter Knight (A British author) called "The Kennedy Assassination" is recommended. The works of another Brit - Mel Ayton - on this subject are also excellent.

Kurtz'z book is good however and is a fine introduction to this bottomless pit of a subject.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great starting point, 14 Nov 2007

For years I had always intended to find out more about the JFK assassination but was always put off purchasing a title because the it appeared the literature was so divided. The approach that Michael L. Kurtz has taken is a welcome change. Whilst being relatively light reading, it is very well researched. Highly recommended!

Can you correct the spelling of "marrs" in the review I just submitted? Drop an "r" for the correct spelling, "mars". Thanks so much.
