I bought this for my husbands Xmas present after reading an article about it in the newspaper where it was billed as an indestructible phone. My hubby's a builder and has trashed so many phones that I thought this product was perfect for him but the reality is that even tho it's tough it is infact rubbish. Names don't come up when he gets texts, when he called jcb they said they were aware of the fault but tough 'cause there were others with the same complaint they had to deal with!!! We are now having to contact the retailer in the mean time stuck with a faulty phone that is tricky to use and messages he's unable to work out who they are from! It doesn't lock itself after hanging up so he ends up calling random people with the phone in his pocket and he's embarrassed of it cause it looks like a kids toy... All in all not one of my better moves, so guys don't waste your money on it!

NOT SO TOUGH:
I was hoping for a really tough phone to replace my Samsung Solid Extreme (screen had cracked). However, within the first week the very tiny tab of the combined battery/back cover had broken off. Looks like bad design as the two tabs only sit about 1mm into the designated slot.

EASE OF USE:
It's a clumsy phone to use, with few personalisable features. Beware, the text notification sound can not be changed and is startling! Also the default ring tone is a JCB engine starting up, I thought there was something seriously wrong with the phone initially. Saying that, the keys are nice and easy to press (unlike the Samsung) and the screen is clear. There's no camera in the phone - again my fault for not checking the specs fully before hand. Why is it that manufacturers of tough phones in general only offer unfriendly, clumsy phones?

WATER RESIST:
My fault here for not checking the specs before ordering, but this is one of the JCB models which you can NOT submerge in water. I found some Helpful explanations of the IP ratings on this website: [...]

CONCLUSION:
My phone was not tough or easy to use and I was very disappointed. I returned the phone with a full no quibble refund.... thanks Amazon

I brought this phone for my Dad and was a bit worried as a lot of the reviews on here were pretty awful. But after putting the SIM in we didn't experience any of the problems most were having with only numbers coming up etc... We fully charged this phone on Christmas Day and we are yet to put it on charge as the battery has held the charge and is still on full bar! And it's been out in the cold and been dropped a few times already. The texting is pretty quick on it. The only downside is it not having a camera but it is a work phone after all. I would recommend this to those who want to keep mobiles simple but with a hint of amusement.

This phone is one of the most badly designed phones good money can buy. Designed by people who have never used a phone before. I only hope JCB make better tractors because this thing is one of the most unresponsive bricks I have ever used. The main reason it is unbreakable is so it can survive the constant rage it induces from its user. My poor husband (who is not tech savvy in the slightest) thought he was having a mental breakdown trying to change the truly terrible ringtones. It was only when I tried to change them for him that it became clear that this phone is very complicated and very difficult to navigate. It also then became clear as to why every message my husband sent me WAS ALL IN CAPITAL LETTERS or all in lower case, the predictive text can only write one or the other. Yeah, that's right, in 2012 a mobile phone is programmed with the settings of a casio calculator. You would be better attaching a piece of string between two paper cups. I only wish that he had taken my advise and used those paper cups. DO NOT BUY FOR THE LOVE OF GOD.

I could text on the previous one - I can't do predictive text and I can't find out how to capitalise from abc input and I don't want to type in capitals. Where is the Abc input or change case key? It has now stuck on fixed dial so only the numbers on the phone book can be dialled.

Absolutely awful, one of the worst phones I have ever had the misfortune of owning !!! I am a builder and have always used the old nokia style brick phones in cases and they always served me really well. I thought i would try a dedicated "tough phone " and wish I had not. I dropped the phone only once from just waist height and after this the keys became very intermittent A nightmare to text on with long pauses where it freezes. The operating system is completely convoluted and really complicated to navigate. When I contacted my supplier they said because I had dropped it would have to pay for the repair and that was only when the phone was 3 months old. BEWARE DO NOT BUY THIS AWFUL CHEAP PHONE !

I have an XP1 and XP3.20 Quest.
I'm on my third replacement XP1. The first just stopped working and was replaced but it took over six weeks (Amazon were the middleman and I had to go back to the original supplier)the screen cracked on the replacement phone and although it still worked I could not see who was calling or who to call , as I knew it would take for ever to get it replaced I bought the XP3.20 . The XP1 turns its self off from time to time but I'm living with it as it will soon be out of warranty and likely to sell it. I have had problems backing up the contacts from the XP3.20 and I am still waiting for a software upgrade which I expect will never come. Have a problem with setting up to receive data which is still unresolved. Still under a three-year guarantee (which I understand is now being reduced to one year)so likely to persevere untill I can get a reliable replacement then I will sell it.
Unhappy farmer (OK so nothing unusual there then)
