The slightly curved chassis measures 7 by 1.4 by 3.5 inches (W x H x D) when closed. When open the cover shifts focus to serve as a stand pointing the speakers upward to produce optimal sound on a flat surface. I bought these speakers for a week's snowboarding holiday recently. I've had portable speakers in the past and so didn't expect much from this JBL unit which encloses both speakers into one housing. However when I powered them up I was very pleasantly surprised. Firstly the design is very impressive, not only compact but 'self storing' with the speakers that slide into their own shell. The sound is very well produced, making everything sound 'warm' not tinny or bass-heavy. The speakers are also pretty loud too, and are ideal for a hotel room or small outdoor area. The speakers come with their own soft storage bag, mains adapter and 3.5mm connector to hook-up to an MP3 player, in my case the creative Zen Touch. I ran the speakers off 4x AAA rechargeable batteries for the week I was away. I expected the standard power AAA's to run out after a day or so, but actually lasted the entire week, pelting out tunes at near full volume for a couple of hours a day! The touch sensitive volume control works very well, and there is a green LED to indicate power on (it also blinks when it's on but there's no audio signal) and an amber LED to indicate low power (this blinks when the audio level peaks, so acts like an 'EQ'). These are seriously good portable speakers. My only two cons would be that in order to power them off you have to disconnect the audio lead and slide the lid fully closed. Additionally when you slide open the lid it doesn't lock into place. This is a minor ergonomic flaw in my opinion and doesn't affect operation on a flat even surface. Other than that I was very satisfied, these speakers are well worth the money and feel very well built and reproduce audio exceptionally well for their minimal stature.

I have been looking to buy a set of decent speakers to use on holiday with my mp3 player, having always borrowed them in the past.I eventually chose these and after comparing the sound with all the others I have to say these are so superior in range , clarity and volume that they are in a totally different class. The build quality is also excellent. Yes they are expensive, but they are worth it. Why buy a cheap set of speakers that will irritate you rather than be a pleasure to listen to ?

Very impressive speakers. The sound is excellent, and the build quality and design are superb. I was almost put off by the photo which doesn't do them justice.I was after something compact that I can take away with me. These certainly fit the bill. I'm much more impressed than I expected to be, and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them.
