Base shadow or highlighter 9 Jan. 2015

Colour Name: Shade 03 Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
I only knew Japonesque as a maker of brushes and tools such as eyelash curler and a brow kit. It seems they have branched out into eye shadow.

This is a typical Japanese eye shadow. They favor a highlighter look (shimmery and light) that opens up an eyelid rather than contour it. So this is fair skin colored and not dark at all. It comes in a tiny compact and you need a separate brush for it in your makeup bag. The case is a small work of art; a 3cm square of polished acrylic with an abstract design in purple, black and a touch of seafoam green. #03 is a mid coppery peach and yeah, it has shimmer and a small amount of larger glitter (fewer pieces of glitter) in it. It can be applied and then wet with your finger on your lid to make a "foil" effect.

A simple and fast way to use this shadow is to dust it all over your eyelid up to the browbone and use a dark, sharp eye pencil just on the lashline. If you blend the pencil (a soft one) up into the corners, you have a very good eye makeup, not too over done for work and easy to touch up. Your makeup bag would only need the pencil, a brush and this eye shadow.

If you don't like light, pearlized shadows, this probably wouldn't be for you. The price is a bit more than Shu Uemura shadow (very similar but many more colors.) However you do not need to buy the separate compact, so it's a bit less in actuality.

good lighter accent shade 7 Jan. 2015

I really like Japonesque cosmetics and this one is no exception. It is quite small (which is difficult to tell by the picture). It goes on easily and evenly. It has a nice shimmered hue too to it, it without being overly sparkly or overbearing. I have very fair skin, so it didn't show up on its own, but when I paired it with a darker brown (brown as base, then this as the accent on top) it was very nice for a classy look. Overall, it's nice, but if you have fair skin, you'll want to use this in complement with a darker shade as well.

Good product 15 Jan. 2015

Japonesque products have rarely dissapointed. This shadow is very small and compact, much smaller than expected. The hue provides a shimmer in a muted way- but it does highlight. Application was not as smooth as I am used to when using Armani or Christian Dior. I also notice that in terms of coverage, Smashbox did a much better job (trying to compare similarly priced items), either wet or dry.

The Japonesque does not come with a foam brush by the way.

Good for a dark complexion 30 Jan. 2015

This is a lovely eye shadow for those who want a subtle color on their eyes, something that will not bowl you over. It's a little too light for my skin, however. Probably it would work better with a slightly darker complexion.
Underwhelming eye shadow 13 Jan. 2015

Colour Name: Shade 03 Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
This is a rather underwhelming eye shadow; it's almost like it isn't there. The color promised to be quite nice and versatile, a light peachy shade of the type that I enjoy wearing on my lids in the summer, or can be used to add some warm shimmer to a darker lid color. In practice, it didn't work out as well as I had hoped. The texture is on the fine side, but it is nowhere as buttery smooth as some of the higher end brands like Chanel, Giorgio Armani, Christian Dior or even Bobbi Brown and Shiseido. The payoff is really quite poor; even with layering I couldn't build up much color. Glittery fallout is not as bad as some MAC mineral eye shadows, NARS glitters or inexpensive brands, but still more than I prefer. It might be nice to use over a matte color, but I wouldn't recommend it only for that purpose. It can also be used wet to improve the payoff, but I judge an eye shadow dry as most people don't use them wet except for lining purposes. The case is sturdy and attractive, with a good sized mirror, but I found the catch to open it a bit tricky. It's possible some of the other colors are better, but 03 is what was sent by the amazon Vine program, so I can't comment on them. For most people, an eye shadow is something that can last years, so I would highly recommend passing this over in favor of a more expensive brand, looking at the higher cost as worthwhile investment.
