I have oily combination skin. This powder is so finely milled, soft to the touch, it absorb my oil and makes my makeup looks so pretty. I don't see any powder on my face and it doesn't look cakey.

I would compare this to Makeup Forever or Nars Finishing Powder. Buy one ASAP!

I have never used a finishing powder prior to using this one but I find it great at setting my foundation and helps it laster longer. The packaging is beautiful and comes with a mirror

Silky translucent matte finish - beautiful! 28 Oct 2014

I've just started realizing that I've reached the age where a little makeup can do wonders for perking up my pale complexion and covering some freckles that have morphed into *gasp* age spots.

I've always gone the natural face way so I had no idea what finishing powder was. The first thing I did was to just apply it to my freshly washed and moisturized face. And looked like a corpse. I couldn't imagine that was a "look" that most people are going for. So I did a little research and found that typically finishing powder is applied on top of foundation. So I washed and moisturized again, then applied some Bare Minerals foundation, which I haven't been loving as much lately because it seemed to give me a wrinkled paper look that wasn't flattering (or desired). Since I'm an artist by trade, I decided to use the Japonesque as I would highlight a painting or drawing. Very nice. But not WOW. So, again with the washing and moisturizer. This time I used some creamy foundation from Maybelline. Then touched up the shiny spots with the Japonesque and WOW!! My skin looked like a porcelain doll's, beautiful, even and lovely. Love it, love it, love it.

It comes in a cute but expensive looking case that stays shut in my bag or drawer. and includes an application sponge. But I think it goes on better with a big, fluffy brush. The texture of the powder is very silky and light and it makes my skin feel smooth like velvet, even with liquid foundation which tends to make even my dry skin look and feel a little greasy. It also covers up spots very well and evens out the skin beautifully with a matte effect. It looks really light in the package but it didn't change the shade of my makeup, it just made it all come together and look, well, finished. It's translucent so it just blends in with whatever I am wearing and makes my skin look luminous.
provides a nice matte finish when used with a light touch 11 Nov 2014

This powder performs the main job I expect when it comes to a face powder: it produces a more matte finish in oily areas of the face and helps to set foundation. However, while the description speaks of "blurring imperfections" and "silky color," I don't really find that it provides much coverage. Or at least, I can't use enough to get coverage without looking chalky, though it's fine if used with a light hand. For this reason, I really prefer using a powder brush instead of the included flat sponge, which I also felt removed too much foundation. Since this powder has a tendency to look too pale on me (my foundation color is usually "light") I'd have reservations about recommending it for deeper skin tones unless you know from experience how translucent powder works for you.

The case is excellent - attractive, sturdy and with a nice-sized mirror - though perhaps a bit difficult to open.

I have tended to prefer loose powder personally. However, when I use this side-by-side with my own favorite shade of loose mineral powder I cannot tell any difference in the results. It hasn't won my brand loyalty, but it's a decent pick.
Feels Smooth and Light 1 Nov 2014

The compact on this powder has a pretty design, a good-sized mirror (you can see your whole face), and a soft sponge for application.

This powder itself has a light, smooth, airy feel. Actually, a velvety feel, so it's aptly named. It's purpose is to set makeup and give skin a matte finish, and it delivers those results as promised. The "mattifying" lasts for several hours, probably longer if your skin is very dry.

The shade is sort of an egg-shell white, which the manufacturers say is universal. This is true, to some extent, but I'd caution those who use it to APPLY WITH A LIGHT HAND. I mention this because if you apply it heavily, you get a "lightening" effect. In other words, you'll see white on your face. This is not to say the product has any glitter or pearl. It does not. Still, use too much, and you'll notice that white look.

Four stars instead of five because of the color, which is a little tricky to apply (at first) without getting a too-pale look.
Light, silky powder and a translucent finish 14 Nov 2014

The JAPONESQUE Velvet Touch Finishing Powder is light and silky and gives my face a polished, matte finish. The powder is very fine and delicate and doesn't settle into the small lines under my eyes - a problem I have with the mineral powder I had been using.

This powder is best applied sparingly and with a light touch. I have a pale complexion and didn't need to use a lot - too much gave me a washed out look. It took a few attempts to find just the right amount to use, but once I did, I was able to achieves a translucent look. I use a big fluffy brush rather than the sponge applicator which comes with the compact. The sponge tends to apply the powder a little too heavily for me, however it works well for touch-ups on oily areas later in the day.

The powder comes in a very pretty compact case with a large mirror. The case closes tightly which at first was annoying, but later I appreciated that it stays firmly closed when carried in my purse or bag.
I'm in love! Probably THE perfect powder! 3 Nov 2014

Powder is the usual finishing touch after foundation to matte down the infamous 'T-zone' of forehead and nose that most of us have. Japonesque Finishing Powder is translucent, meaning that it works for probably all but the darkest complexions. (I'm a twin to Snow White, so it's rare a powder is ever too light for me.)

As for the powder itself, I'm in love! The finish truly is silky; the powder is whisper light and imparts a very, very subtle glow. That means that your T-zone oiliness is tamped down, but the skin doesn't look DEAD. It looks radiant, alive - matte and beautiful. (The compact comes with an applicator, but I'm a brush girl myself.)

Working with this powder is a sensual delight! It's so silky and fine that it feels like a beauty treatment just putting it on. The luxurious case is just an added bonus and will do your handbag proud.
