finally a medium to full cover make-up foundation that looks great. Blends very well and once done does not leave your skin feeling like you have a mask on. I have marks under my chin and I do not need to use any extra bits of concealer. Love it!

Highly pigmented coverage that is feather light and natural in appearance, one of the best foundations I've used 6 Nov 2014

I would love to see these shades named better. I received shade #4 to review (As a reviewer, I didn't get a color choice.) I normally wear ivory, or the lightest foundation shade. Color #4 reminds me a lot of Revlon Colorstay "Natural Buff" - it is about the same fairness as Covergirl's "Fair" or "Ivory" but with more or a yellow tint, and less pink, in the actual color. It reminds me of the Bisque #5 in Vincent Longo's line, and bisque is, I think, a good 'color name' for this shade. I find that it evens out the ruddiness that creeps into my fair complexion exceptionally well.

In coverage terms, and in feel once it is ON the skin, it reminds me of Vincent Longo's 'water canvas' line - the product is a highly pigmented liquid however, but it goes on feather light and disappears into the skin, leaving only a very fine layer of pigment to even out skin-tone. It can also settle into fine lines and pores like the Vincent Logo can, though not quite as bad. I tried it with hyaluronic acid and a light moisturizer on under it, and I had much less problem with it settling into fine lines. It really looks about as perfect as any foundation has ever looked, WHEN I am careful to prepare my skin with moisturizer first. Directions say to use a foundation brush. I used my fingers and that worked fine.

It feels and looks very natural- it stays on for hours, certainly getting me through the day. It is simply, for me, one of the best foundations I have ever used. (And I test a lot of them!) Of course, I have very, very fine pores and only a few fine wrinkles, and my skin type is normal. This may not work as well on other skin types, or even my own skin in a few years as aging becomes more of an issue for me.

The bottle is nice, though the lid does come off easy and I'm sure I will lose it in no time. It has a pump applicator that delivers a small amount. I only needed one pump's dispense to cover my face well- it should last a while.

I wish they could be more descriptive in their shades. That's my only complaint.

Not Gilding the Lily 2 Nov 2014

Japonesque foundation offers light to medium coverage. It is priced to fall mid-range between drug store lines that sell for about ten dollars a bottle and luxury lines that go for over sixty. It comes in a good quality, glass bottle with a pump applicator.

I tried the #4 shade which was a neutral to cool beige that would be appropriate for those with light, as opposed to pale or medium, complexions. I have a light olive complexion and usually wear the second to third lightest color offered and #4 was maybe just a tad dark on my untanned skin.

I followed instructions and applied the foundation with a brush and then feathered it with a sponge. I also applied the foundation with my fingertips and then feathered with a sponge. Both times, the foundation went on smoothly and was able to be layered over areas that needed slightly more coverage. The foundation took some time to fully dry and set. At first it seemed a bit sticky but it dried to a soft finish and did not feel mask-like.

I used a full arsenal of makeup over the foundation: under eye cream, cream and powder blush, contour powder, cream highlighter, powder, and all blended fairly easily into the foundation.

The finished result was ok, but I have to say, it really did not enhance the quality of my skin. Nor did it look particularly "natural" nor particularly "luminous." In fact, Japonesque was not noticeably better than the highly rated L'Oreal Paris True Match Super Blendable Makeup which comes in over 30 shades and sells in drug stores for one third the price of Japonseque. Perhaps I would have liked it more if the shade matched my complexion better?

Foundation preferences are quite personal. My favorite is Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation which I wear in shade 5.5. It sells for over sixty dollars but I find that I use very little at a time and a bottle lasts almost a year. It sinks into my skin, dries quickly, offers good coverage and is truly, wonderfully luminous. Another favorite foundation is Smashbox Liquid Halo HD Foundation SPF 15 which I wear in shade #2. It sells for about forty dollars, has sunscreen, and is a good every day, less pricey alternative to the Armani.

Japonesque is a good choice if you are confident about your shade and are looking for a basic, light to medium coverage foundation base that sells in the thirty dollar range.

I Have Perfect Skin When Using This 1 Nov 2014

I am a woman of that certain age, and I had doubts that this product would do all that it claimed to do. However, it really did. It made my face look like it had been airbrushed on.

I must say that you really should get the JAPONESQUE Complexion Trio Brush Set to help make application easier. It is recommended that you use a foundation brush with this, and it really does make a difference. This is a product that needs layering and feathering to look airbrushed and a good brush really helps the foundation look more natural and will also help you to avoid that mask like look some people seem to get no matter what they do.

It minimized my pores, covered my imperfections and even made my crows feet appear to disappear (if you know what I mean!) It took some work to do so though. After using this for a while I found it gets easier. I am a woman of that certain age, and I had doubts that this product would do all that it claimed to do. However, it really did. It made my face look like it had been airbrushed on.You will need to use several coats for that flawless look if you have any imperfections.

This is one of those types of products that feels wet when first applied, but soon finishes to a matte yet dewy look and feel. I recommend you use a finishing or setting powder after applying the foundation, just to make sure it lasts through the day. For instance ➨ JAPONESQUE Velvet Touch Finishing Powder or ➨ Dermablend Loose Setting Powder Original, 1 Ounce I have not tried the spray finishing product so I cannot comment on that.

Frankly after just a week or so of using this, I think it will become my go to product. Less expensive brands (and even they can become costly and hard to get sometimes)may have different things that make them appealing, but they don't seem to do what this does.

A unique design will make it easy to get to the very last drop...and I found this to be water proof (or at least crying proof), once I used powder over it. After 12 hours of wearing this, the foundation did not settle into my laugh lines and very, very little wore off and that was mostly because of resting my face on my palm for an hour or more.

Go for it, I don't think you will be unhappy at all.

If and when I wear make up, I generally use concealer, primer, and a mineral powder. Sometimes I use a tinted moisturizer. I am not fond of foundation makeup. I find it usually looks too fake on my 50-something skin. When I was younger, I didn't need it as I had an excellent complexion.

When I was offered this product through the Amazon Vine program, I didn't expect to like it. First of all, I thought "Shade 04" was probably too dark for my skin. I am pale, though no longer "porcelain" and have a somewhat yellow cast to my skin. I once had an expert permanent makeup artist tell me that my skin was truly neither warm nor cool and quite difficult to find the right colors for, so I didn't hold out much hope for a free product that was a random color match!

Luckily for me (and this review) "Shade 04" turned out to be perfect for me! The pearlescence of this foundation makes it go on lighter than it looks in the bottle. That is also what makes it look natural (which I did not expect). It looks so pearly in the hand, but goes on looking simply beautiful, neither dull matte or too shiny like many foundations. It is not "sparkly" looking as I feared it might be. It just looks good.

The foundation has a soft floral smell upon application. I am quite sensitive to scent and have found that much makeup these days has too much of it. I don't like having a scent right in my face. I also wear perfume and hate having the scents clash. I was more than pleased that the scent of this foundation was unnoticeable only minutes after application. It has less fragrance than many a "fragrance free" product. Many foundations and primers these days smell like acrylic paint to this artist's nose, and I do not want to put stuff like that on my face! Bravo Japonesque for getting this so right!

It is opaque enough to even out skin tone and give the skin a nice even quality without looking harsh and overly made up. It is sheer enough to feel like one is wearing nothing at all. The first time I tried it, I neither applied concealer or primer and it did a great job! I used it with primer to see if it made much of a difference. Of course, primer helps with fine lines, and if I want to look really made up, I'll use it. But, I would rather do without primer and so I'm quite happy to have tried the Japonesque Luminous Foundation because it really does not need the primer. The foundation stayed on all day both with and without it.

At first I thought it was pricey, but when I realize that I do not need either concealer or primer, it isn't. This is really a great foundation. I also like the look of the bottle and the nice pump that lets one dispense very small amounts (though to be perfectly honest, the cap doesn't stay on well). I don't particularly care because I keep makeup products that don't get used up quickly inside their boxes so they stay fresh longer and don't fall out of my cabinet. Bottom line: this is my "holy grail" of foundation. It is simply perfect for me, and I plan on purchasing it again when I've used up this bottle.
Really impressed and no breakouts 3 Nov 2014

I'm extremely partial to my smashbox studio skin 15 hour foundation and didn't think this could possibly measure up, but I have to say that I'm really impressed. I wanted something a little more luminous to wear, at least on my t-zone and cheek bone area now that winter is around the corner. Studio skin is great for a polished matte look in the summer but on dry skin (which I only get during the winter months), it has a tendency to sit atop the skin, which also accentuates the pores.

I'm really pleased with the finish (natural skin look) and longevity. I've tried dozens of luminous finish foundations in the past 1-2 years and most of them make me look oily, shiny, sparkly and/or have a very short lasting power. This stays on me for nearly a full day without touch-ups. I like the sheer formula because I don't like looking as though I'm wearing a face full of makeup - though I do wish it were a little more heavily pigmented (thankfully I'm having a good skin month but this really doesn't cover very well). I just can't bring myself to try and layer anything on my face - it never looks natural IMO and my skin hates me for it later.

I dab and then buff this on to my T-Zone and cheekbones using a round dome-shaped brush, then I use my SB Studio (which is about a shade darker since it's my summer color) to frame my face and blend inwards. Never heard of Japonesque before but I'm really happy to have this foundation and will continue to purchase. It has not made me break out in the slightest and seems to keep my skin normal (with regards to not drying out my skin or making it too oily) where I use it. Additionally, I appreciate that it is sunscreen free because it can be really difficult to find that in a foundation nowadays.
