I've listened to this set a number of times now, and enjoy them. He has a superb command of his instrument, and nails the listener to his or her seat such is his personality. I've watched a video clip of him playing the same repertoire to a packed house in Moscow, and he stands and plays the whole six pieces in one concert from memory. No mean feat. For those looking for an inward approach, move on, but for those with a broader appreciation there is much to commend these discs. I bought them because I felt there was a keen musical intelligence at work, and don't mind these pieces being performed in the grand manner. I think high octane Bach as found in this recording is simply one of the endless facets of genius, and happily this is not an end to exploration of this music.
