Some people will prefer the fuller choral versions of these motets, which were already rather antiquated in Bach's time. Most of them were written for funerals, where, it's a safe bet, there were no more than one or two singers to a part, and this is the texture that Bach undoubtedly intended. This is complex music, the details of which can easily be lost in the thick texture of a larger chorus (even a "kammerchor"). This is essentially a chamber version, with virtuosic, energetic, and well-articulated and controlled singing. Highly recommended.
