I love this recording, even more than Savall's Brandenburgs. There is no other i know that performs these suites in such a grand manner.

It is very unusual to have such a big, lush sound from an original instrument band like this. I have enjoyed Roy Goodman's Brandenburg Consort recording for it's punchy timpani and bright trumpets but Savall outdoes him in both these departments and more. And it's wonderful to have the famous Air from Suite no.3 played at leisure, (cigar-smoke and all) as opposed to the usual over-hasty tempo original instrument groups normally give it.

For all the grandeur of big-band Bach with all the benefits of original instrument clarity, this is the one to buy.

P.S. If you enjoy this recording then buy Savall's version of Handel's Water Music and Fireworks too, where all the same glories as here apply.
