This is an outstanding bargain combining technical skill and deep musical insights. The account is bold and original, with extremes of tempi (the slowest aria on record, and genuine virtuosity in fast variations such as No 8.) The structuring of the final part of the work, from variations 26 to the end, is especially impressive. There are very few budget versions of the Goldbergs at all, let alone good ones, so this is a good buy.

I'm not at all that knowledgeable on classical music but bought this CD as I had previously come across some other works by J S Bach so decided that on the basis of liking those, I would get this as well. Not to mention that Aria da capo was used in the Hannibal film (directed by Ridley Scott) if I remember correctly.

Since buying this I have enjoyed it very much and love to put this on after getting home from a long day at work. It is both relaxing in parts but also upbeat and energising as well.

To my untrained somewhat inexperienced ear, I do agree that it does come across as a very complexed piece of piano work. The pianist responsible for performing this is obviously highly talented.

Anyway, I do recommend this for those who like me are relatively new to this musical genre. It makes for a good investment and will not disappoint.

A superb performance of what is arguably the most technically difficult keyboard work of the baroque period. From joyous and lyrical to complex and introspective, this is outstanding playing.
