Perfect Summer Album,

This review is from: J.J. Cale Live (Audio CD)
It's taken him a long time to finaly release the long overdue Live album and boy what a great album it is. His wife once said that you ain't heard him until he's playing on one of those Hot sticky Southern nights on his own back porch.Laid back is not the word as he sort of ambles through this album playing all his usual best loved tracks(Cocaine, Call me the Breeze, Sensitive Kind and After Midnight). So sit back watch the sun go down, pick up your drink and play this album. Perfect pleasure.

Enjoyable live album from a great professional,

This review is from: J.J. Cale Live (Audio CD)
J.J. Cale's first ever live album opens with an atmospheric solo performance of "After Midnight", and an almost Mississippi John Hurt-like "Old Man", both of them recorded at Carnegie Hall. But just when you think you got him figured out, Cale pulls a driving rock n' roll-like rendition of "Call Me The Breeze" out of his hat, one which (to me, at least) is far better than the original studio recording. And it goes on like that, with Cale's smooth and pristine guitar solos gracefully unfurling on low-key acoustic numbers and band-backed rockers alike. Classics like "Cocaine", "Magnolia" and "After Midnight" are here, of course, but lesser-known songs like the loping, melodic "River Boat Song" and the country-rock shuffle "Living Here Too" are often just as memorable.

JJ, Live at last!,

OK, look, if you're reading this you don't need me to tell you how good J.J.Cale is! All I can add to the previous reviews is this. Having had the rare good fortune to catch him live on the tour this album was cut from, this CD brings back memories of one of the best gigs I've ever been to. Many nights I've spent with my guitar, strumming away to these tunes, a beer on the table, just as nature intended!
