The IXOS DJ1004 Ministry of Sound headphones combine a professional listening experience with absolute comfort--at an affordable price.

Aimed just below the more expensive DJ range of IXOS headphones the DJ1004 are aimed more at home listeners who demand the best listening experience. IXOS has its roots in high-quality audio cable design, so teamed up with the Ministry of Sound to produce a headphones range that has no compromises.

The DJ1004 offers a 40 mm driver unit, and making full use of this the headphones are certainly loud enough. The raised driver unit resting close against the ear and the padded cushion make for one of the most comfortable headsets you're likely to wear. Unlike the DJ models, the DJ1004 has a self-adjusting head strap which works fine but doesn't secure the headsets quite so firmly to your head.

Thanks to an open-back design the sound produced by the headphones is very warm with a rich bass and perfectly clear mid tones, though the high-end is ever so slightly lost at high volume. Technically speaking the headphones have a less inspiring frequency response, from 20 Hz up to a reasonable high of 22 KHz. With an impedance of 32 ohms, the headphones manage 116 bd at 1 KHz. They come with a fixed three-metre lead and 3.5 mm gold plated jack, plus a clip-on 6.3 mm adapter.

Build quality is great and with a solid alloy back these headphones do seem a little classier than all plastic equivalents. Providing a rich listening experience for a reasonable price, this is a great set of headphones. --Nick Baxter

I don't think I've ever found headphones painful to wear before, but these ones certainly are. They clamp down far too hard and after any prolonged wear start to cause a great deal of pain in your ears and often headaches. Their case is not helped by the speakers inside the headphones, which are covered by a ridiculously thin and flimsy foam which does absolutley nothing to stop them digging into your ears.

On the up side, which is rather irrelevent given the pain, they do produce good sound and unsurprisingly stay on your head rather well. However that does not, in any way, make up for the pain they cause.

i purchased these headphones last september,and while the sound is good qualty, the comfort level can only be described as being dreadfull. The maximum time i have been able use them so far is 15 mins.I will replace these headphones as soon as posible.

these headphones were great! The headphones are excelant value and produce teriffic sound qaulity! Unlike other headphones that i have had these were really confotable to wear and they look good too! They also come with a nice case to keep them in! Overall these are an excelant buy which i would recomend to anybody!
