Product Description

Ivy the Kiwi (Nintendo DS)

Manufacturer's Description

Pillowed on a pile of leaves in the middle of a dark forest, a baby bird is breaking out of a curious egg. Her bright orange head and beak poke out the top of the polka-dot shell and she cries for her mother. The forest animals watch her curiously, but apart from them there is no one to claim her. Still trapped in the shell except for her head and feet, Ivy begins walking through the forest calling for her mother. She meets many other kinds of birds, but none are like her and she wanders searchingly for traces of her kind until she finds a glowing orange feather. With a clue now in beak, Ivy sets out to follow the trail that will lead her to her mother.

Ivy the Kiwi? is a brand new IP designed by Yuji Naka, the creator of Sonic, and developed by PROPE. The game has made a leap to the DS and Wii with all new controls uniquely suited for the DS stylus and Wii remote. Marked by high production values and a charming atmosphere, Ivy the Kiwi? follows the adventures of a lonely baby bird, traversing various stages and navigating through the obstacles that stand in her way. Using skill and wit Ivy follows the trail of feathers in hopes of finally reaching her mother.

No need to write a long review about this excellent "little" game : it is very poetic
The story is cute, the drawings are very nice and the atmosphere is like a nice dream.
It is a good game with a good price, worth the value.

I am a very competent gamer but I just cannot get on with the mechanics of controlling this game. You have no control over Ivy; she just continues to walk on regardless, at a fair speed too, while you have to draw strands of Ivy to guide or launch her over and through obstacles. Sounds simple enough but the method of doing this is not intuitive; Ivy, the little bird, moves too fast to plan ahead; it just doesn't work, that is, it's not fun just frustrating. Don't buy this for your little one they will end up just smashing up the DS! Also, the sepia graphics are dull and depressing.

Buy it! Don't even ask why, just get it. If you are looking for it you probably know what it is. In this age of trashy first person shooters filled with angry teenagers this feels so refreshing and it's good for either adults and kids!

My Grandchildren could not grasp this game at all and asked me how to do it. I am a little slow on the uptake but finaly figured out that you literaly have to lay the path for Ivy to walk on. Only snag is I am not quick enough and keep getting her trapped in awkward corners. They get it now though and enjoy it.
