This book is extremely well researched and written. It feels like she wants you to know every single thing there is to know about fashion, without holding anything back. You can really sense her passion. It covers all eras, has famous people writing their opinion on their subject of choice throughout the book, care for clothes etc. Very comprehensive. Only downside I would say is that I wish there were pictures to accompany literature especially details about stitch quality etc- would have been helpful to see what she was talking about for the less initiated and non-fashion-student people like myself.
Another thing also is I wouldn't buy her other book if I've already got this as they have very similar content, so either get one or the other.

This is a must-buy for anyone with an interest in vintage clothes. It's a treasure trove of information, going into more detail than I had even dared to hope for!
Never again will you accidentally bypass an amazing find in a charity shop - the author arms you with all the tips and tricks you need to recognise pure quality, even if the label has long been ripped out of the garment!
Well researched, hugely informative, relevant to the UK, and very entertaining and easy to read. I highly recommend this book. Buy it, you won't regret it! :)

I got this book for my wife as we have recently begun attending vintage fairs. The book is short on pictures (ie there arent any) but excellent for advice on what to look for (eg types of buttons/zips) when sourcing original vintage items. An excellent resource for anyone interested in selling vintage items as a hobby or as a job
