Book Description

Emma and Leo have been together for ever, but their relationship seems to have lost its sparkle. When Leo turns up to Emma's thirtieth birthday dinner unforgivably late and extremely drunk, she can't help wishing for someone to wave a magic wand and turn Leo into a reliable and considerate boyfriend.

Then Leo's path crosses with a decidely unusual girl called Isobel and as he falls under her spell, Emma sees him change before her very eyes. Soon she regrets wishing for a 'new' Leo at all. If Emma's going to win Leo back, she'll need to do some changing of her own . . .

More About the Author

Carole Matthews is the bestselling author of more than 25 hugely successful romantic comedy novels. Her unique sense of humour has won her legions of fans all over the world.

Her books, A Cottage by the Sea and Calling Mrs Christmas have both appeared in the top ten of the Sunday Times bestseller list. Her novels Welcome To The Real World and Wrapped Up In You were shortlisted for the RNA Romantic Novel of the Year award. She was also inducted into The Festival of Romance Hall of Fame for her outstanding contribution to romantic fiction.
Carole is a prolific writer of short stories, featuring in several anthologies, and has presented on television. She's also a regular radio guest.

Born in St Helens, Merseyside, Carole has always been an avid reader and dreamed of being a teacher, an air traffic controller, a travel guide or a hairdresser - writer never featured once. Leaving Liverpool for London after a torrid holiday romance in Torquay, she worked as a secretary, an ice-cream lady, a shop assistant and a beauty therapist. It was when she was working in a completely mad holistic clinic that she first thought 'one day I should write a book about this.' She still hasn't got round to it.

Entering a short story competition in Writing Magazine, the first fiction she'd written since being coerced into it at school, Carole - to her and everyone else's amazement - won a thousand pounds! Then - to her and everyone else's amazement - she spent the money, not on shoes and handbags, but on a writing course. The tutor on the course liked what she was writing and recommended an agent who took her on straight away. He sold her first book, which became Let's Meet on Platform 8, a week later.

Previously very unlucky in love, she now lives happily ever after with her partner, Lovely Kev, at Matthews' Towers in the Costa del Keynes. She likes to drink champagne, eat chocolate, bake cake and spends far too much time on Facebook and Twitter.

5.0 out of 5 stars Different but fantastic story 5 April 2008
having read the other reviews Im a little shocked. I have read most of Carole Matthews books and have to say I thought this was brilliant. Personally speaking I think it's one of her best, It was a pleasant surprise to read about a fairy involved in a romantic novel with humour added. Well written for the adult, brings out the child in all of us.

4.0 out of 5 stars Was a fairy a good idea? 8 Mar. 2008
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I really enjoyed The Chocolate Lover's Club, and The Chocolate Lover's Diet, but I wasn't so enamoured of this one. It was enjoyable but the introduction of magic did not quite fit somehow. If you like magic in your books Christina Jones hits the right note for me.
That said I finished it and found it entertaining. Leo and his friends were realistically drawn and believable. Oddly enough I was less convinced by Emma. She did learn from her own mistakes and change by the end of the book but she wasn't quite believable. I did like some of the scenes with Isobel - the fairy - and people's reactions to her were interesting.
Not as good as the two Chocolate books, but still good light reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars A grown up fairy tale 2 Mar. 2008

I've read all of Carole Matthews books and I found this very different to what she usually writes, but still really enjoyed it.
If you're the kind of girl who likes fairy tales then this is the book for you.

3.0 out of 5 stars Is three stars too much? 27 Feb. 2008
By Sue
I really enjoy Carole Matthews witty style of writing but all the way through this book I was thinking what a very silly storyline. Without giving anything away (the blurb on the back of the book certainly doesn't as I probably wouldn't have bought it if I'd known), you may feel like I did after reading it and think "hmm, not one of her best".

4.0 out of 5 stars Not one of her best! 2 April 2008
I normally love all Carole Matthews' books and I find them humorous and a good all round read. However, I felt that this one wasn't as good as all of her others. The humour and the lovable characters were there, but I felt as if the storyline lacked the reality of her previous novels. I felt confused by the whole idea of Isobel, ie. was she real or was she a fairy? I also felt that the character of Emma was so irritating, but I warmed to her by the end of the book. I would still recommend reading this book to others, though.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing 5 July 2008
I usually like Carole Matthews and especially like her chocolate lovers ones. I have to say I was disapponted with this, I thought the story was ridiculous and the parts that were supposed to be funny, eg the stuck in the box part, were just so unfunny they didnt even make me smile. I did think about giving up several times but persevered with it and now I've finished it I'm not sure why I did.

5.0 out of 5 stars it's a kind of magic of course 25 Mar. 2012
Emma and Leo were together for several years when Leo did something wrong : it was Emma birthday and he was supposed to meet her at the restaurant with the rest of the family .
But Leo starts the evening drinking and having fun with his two colleagues and friends Lard and Grant . Leo finally decides to head to the restaurant quite drunk . Emma can't believe he has forgotten again it was her birthday and that he arrives like that drunks and without a gift . So on the way she decided to stop her relationship .
On his way back to home, Leo meets Isobel who was on a way of jumping from a bridge . He convincs her to get down and then she follows him at his flat. Here was the little start of a new relationship with Isobel. But Isobel is not an usual person she does magic things . So Leo will have to deal with Isobel kind of magic .
Even if he is well with Isobel, Leo can't stop thinking of Emma and realized how he loves her and that he really want a new chance.
On her side, Emma realized that she loves Leo when she sees him with his new girl friend ..
What will be the choice of Leo ? staying with his new friend or returning with Emma?
Will Emma agree to let another chance to Leo if he decides to come back ?

It was a lovely story with lots of magic, joy, but also sadness. I have loved the way how Leo has changed to make happy his girlfriend . I also appreciate the friendship between Leo, Grant and Lard but also between Emma, and her two friends .
I have enjoyed the fact that we can see how Emma will change and so does Leo .
My favorite character was Isobel as she is kind, lovely and with lots of surprises.
I also loved Lard and Grant as they does everything to help Leo in the entire book. They are what we can all wish for as best friends ..
Great work Carole Matthews
