You'll either love David or Hate him - there are no in betweens with this character who stars in a number of books. Some reviewers have described David as frightening with his small black eyes and large sharp teeth. Others feel he would be a bad influence on their children. One reviewer was unhappy that after a day of misbehaviour, David is rewarded with a hug in the original story. These books are completely unique. I have never found any other books even remotely like these.

I love the David Books though, and so do my sons. My oldest (age 6) says they were the very best of his picture books, and his favourites until James Bond. Even though he is rapidly outgrowing picture books, he still enjoys these, despite the fact that we read them almost every night. My youngest son says the No David books are the best books in the world. The oldest, at age 6 can read the very large black crayon type print with ease. At three, my youngest obviously can not read this, but he can recite it word for, only stumbling on one page with an exceptionally long text. Most of the pages have only one simple sentence, which is very clearly illustrated by the drawings, so this book is ideal for those just learning to read.

"It's Christmas David" is the latest addition to our David collection. In this book, it is Christmastime, and while David seems to be a good hearted child, he is just one of those kids who is always in trouble. The cover depicts him knocking down the Christmas tree as he reaches for a candy cane. The first page begins " At Christmastime everyone said ' No David !' ".

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Great David Book!! 28 Dec 2010
By Ursula K. Raphael TOP 1000 REVIEWER
Format:Hardcover
The David books are based on the childhood experiences of author David Shannon, and the illustrations tell the story perfectly, along with a few choice phrases. In this case, the phrases include "no peeking," "no snitching," "be patient," and many others that most of us can relate to from our own childhood memories, or even some phrases we've probably had to use with our own children.

In addition to being reminded what is expected of him with Christmas just around the corner, David has a bad dream that Santa brings him a lump of coal for being naughty. Of course, there is a very happy ending for David, with a lovely picture of him in his mother's arms once more.

Not only is the David book series entertaining for the whole family, but the brief phrases in big writing make these great books for beginning readers. We've been getting the David books for our son for the past few years, and now that he is five, he is able to read most of the words by himself.

Some of our other favorites include Oh, David! and No, David!.

5.0 out of 5 stars DAVID!! 26 Dec 2010
By Pamela A. Poddany - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover|Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
IT'S CHRISTMAS, DAVID!

What luck this book arrived a few days before Christmas. What fun for me to sit on the couch with my three year old Paige snuggled next to me as we read the current adventures of David -- on Christmas morning together!

As usual, David is a little stinker and it being Christmas time is no exception. David is playing with tree ornaments, looking for his presents, sneaking cookies, being a bad little boy! And Santa is watching, but David just can't help himself.

On one page we saw David streaking down the street dressed only in a Christmas hat! When I asked Paige if he was being a bad boy she said YES, YOU SHOULD ONLY RUN AROUND NAKED IN YOUR HOUSE! Out of the mouth of babes!

Does David get presents from Santa for being a good boy? Or has David been so bad that he receives nothing but a big old lump of coal? Read the book with your babies and find out!

As usual, the illustrations are wonderfully life-like and definitely kid oriented. David's facial expressions speak volumes. My personal favorite picture was of David in his pajamas looking out his window into the night, searching for the man in red. What a great book to give to those kids in your life any time of the year, but especially at Christmas time!

David is always a joy to bring into your house.

Thank you and MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pam

5.0 out of 5 stars David Books..... 29 Nov 2010

My Grandson Ethan loves All of the "David" books and so do I.
I've tried to buy every David book I can find because I know that Ethan will be so happy to receive it and read them.
Ethan loves the David books so much that he asked me to create a No! Ethan book for him and I did!!!
I can't tell you the look on his face when I gave him his very own No! Ethan book, it was priceless and worth the hours I spent making it.
The character of David is too cute and a bit mischievious and very sweet indeed and it's funny as well and we laugh at the situations little David gets into.
The David books are short, fun and totally keeps the interests of a small child.

4.0 out of 5 stars It's David...at Christmas 28 Dec 2010
By Rev Casey - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover|Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
The "David" books are simple books about the mischevious boy named David. The original featured him getting in trouble at school. This features David wreaking lovable havoc at Christmas. The kids dig it. The "David" stories aren't big on plot, just entertaining scenarios for the kids. If your kids loved the first David book, get it. If they thought it was so-so, check it out from the library.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great addition to your 'David' library 24 Dec 2010

We own all of the previous David books, and my daughter was thrilled when this latest addition arrived. David is up to his usual antics, although with a holiday twist. Plain, simple language and bright eye-catching illustrations capture the essence of how hard it can be to be on one's best behavior when tempted by all the holiday fun and goodies. David plays with the ornaments on the tree, snitches cookies, and runs bare (almost) through the neighborhood. I think the author does a wonderful job of showing that even when a child tries so hard to be good, it's really hard sometimes. Some parents may be less than thrilled with the writing of his name in the snow or the fact that even though he's been naughty all year, in the end Santa comes through with a pile of Christmas goodness. However my daughter and I have always thought that the overall message of the David books was love and acceptance; in the end, he's loved no matter his faults. It's not my favorite of the David books, but my daughter rates it 5 stars.

4.0 out of 5 stars My 6-year old loves the "David" books--this one is no exception 24 Dec 2010
By Mrs. Wilson - Published on Amazon.com

Short sentences -- this is a book of few words. Even so, my daughter thoroughly enjoyed having it read to her while she laughed at the detailed illustrations. She loved it. I only gave it four stars because I didn't feel it had much substance.
