Format:Audio CD
I bought this album way back in 1987 on cassette (remember them!!!) after buying "Breakout" as a single. Nothing nicer when you buy an album by a new artist and you get straight into it. LOVE "Twilight World" - my fave on the whole album. It gets right under my skin in the nicest possible way. Still sounds as good now as it did way back in 1987!!!

On the surface, this album - released in 1987 - sounds like the soundtrack to the yuppie era, and I expect that this music was played on many an estate agent's car stereo. But beyond the slick, souless electro-pop veneer, it's actually very good. Apart from Corrine Day's beautifully rich voice, the songs are well-crafted and at their best, are worthy of comparison with Burt Bacharach. Swing Out Sister's tradegy is that they got into Lounge music before it was fashionable. By the time it was, they were regarded as synonymous with the late 80's, and were swiftly consigned to obscurity (although the Japanese remained loyal). Forget the 80's. Just enjoy some of the best pop you'll ever hear.

Wow, talk about total nostalgia rush. I remember countless times, sat in the back of my dad's car, my dad playing It's Better to Travel, thinking "this is the most dated, bland music I have heard in my life" that was in 95. Fifteen years on, well, nothing's changed; however, the album holds some special memories for me and for that reason, I'm giving it all five of my five stars.
And hey, it's not as bad as I thought!

Brilliant
AS usual SOS have the most brilliant music, play anywhere, parties, background, to listen, sing along to, anything, they can do no wrong in my eyes.

Swing out Sister showcase eighties glam rock at it's best.
I don't know if this is a good thing, but Swing out Sister began Tom O'Connor's afternoon BbC TV series in the 1980's with a mimed rendition of Breakout, which also opens this CD. Read more
