Book Description

Gwyneth Paltrow, Academy-Award winning actress and bestselling cookbook author, returns with recipes for the food she eats when she wants to lose weight, look good, and feel more energetic.

Product Description

Last spring, after a particularly gruelling schedule and lapse of overindulgence, Gwyneth Paltrow was feeling fatigued and faint. A visit to her doctor revealed that she was anemic, vitamin D deficient, and that her stress levels were sky high. He prescribed an elimination diet to clear out her system and help her body heal. But this meant no coffee, no alcohol, no dairy, no eggs, no sugar, no shellfish, no deep-water fish, no wheat, no meat, no soy, nothing processed at all!

An avid foodie, Paltrow was concerned that so many restrictions would make meal time boring, so, together with Julia Turshen, she compiled a collection of 185 delicious, easy recipes that followed her doctor's guidelines. And it worked! After changing her diet, Paltrow healed totally, felt more energetic and looked great. Now, in IT'S ALL GOOD, she shares the go-to dishes that have become the baseline for the restorative diet she turns to whenever she feels she needs it. Recipes include: Huevos Rancheros, Korean Chicken Tacos, Salmon Burgers with Pickled Ginger, even Power Brownies, Banana 'Ice Cream', and more!

5.0 out of 5 stars All good and it works 6 Jan 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
Being an all day breakfast man myself I didn't think too much about this book. However, my wife has suffered with acne all her life (and she is in her late thirties now). She has used hundreds of treatments and spent maybe thousands of pounds. Since she started using the recipes in this book her complexion has become fantastic. She says she feels better and she has lost around a stone too (or 6.35 kilos for all these reviewers who seem incensed by non-metric measures) without seeming to eat particularly less. I have also started eating some of the meals too and, even though they don't seem to make me look any better, they taste nice.

3.0 out of 5 stars Frustrating lack of thought by the publisher 13 April 2013
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
I have just received this book from Amazon and started reading through it. The recipes themselves look okay, but it has clearly been written for an American market. Not a problem, necessarily, but unfortunately the publishers have put virtually no effort whatsoever into presenting the book to an English market.

On the less serious side, the recipes primarily use spoon and cup measurements, which I have no issue with. A set of spoons and cups is easy and cheap to pick up and actually convenient to use, so no problems there. They also use American names for ingredients, scallions for spring onions, cilantro instead of coriander, etc. Again not that much of an issue.

Where it really starts getting annoying is the times when the recipes use weighed ingredients: a three to four pound chicken, for example, or a 14-ounce can of beans, with no metric alternative. Even more irritatingly, oven temperature is only given in fahrenheit in the recipe instructions.

While the book does provide you with a 'handy' conversion table at the back, it baffles me why they couldn't have included alternative measurements in the recipes themselves, rather than force me to flick to the back to double-check (and it doesn't solve my gripe about the weights either).

It's probably not worth returning the book over, but it does show real laziness on the part of the publisher, and it's an irritation which could have been so easily prevented with some pretty minor editing of the recipes.

5.0 out of 5 stars My favourite cookbook 16 Nov 2013
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
Never been a GP fan. Beautiful, rich, skinny, successful, married to a popstar, I thought "really" what have you got to complain about, why do you need to write a cook book, I thought it was going to be dreadful, I couldn't have been more wrong. I felt that her story and interest in healthy food was not only very genuine but very human and interesting. I feel this book is full of integrity and great ideas. I love the photography and the layout of the book, I know that some reviews have critised the fact that there's not an image for ever dish, I don't find this a problem. Quite frankly, Gwyneth looks amazing, better than she did in her previous cook book, which is a great promotion for cleaning up our diets. I have changed my mind completely, Go Gwynie!!
I have always been interested in nutrition as well as cooking. I was very surprised how many average and bad reviews this book has, my experience with it completely differs. It must be hard as a celebrity to put yourself up for doing something like this, as people feel they know you and are very quick to criticise, personally, celebrity aside, this book is great. I absolutely love the salad dressings, I have made at least 5 of them, they work ever time! Lee's hoisin sauce is quick, simple, delicious and a huge hit with my teenage girls, if you compare the ingredients with the chemical loaded shop bought ones, it is really very clever and no hidden nasties. I cook her many mushroom soup on a regular basis and the roasted cauliflower and chickpeas has become a staple in our house. The Sriracha chilli sauce is fantastic and adds a real depth of flavour to so many dishes and last for 6 months in the fridge. The quinoa granola is amazing, I use pecans instead of walnuts, very very tasty.

1.0 out of 5 stars not what expected 9 Jun 2014
By sandy
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
I thought this was going to be a really good book with good advice and easy to follow receipes. I found many of the receipes were too american and i was not able to obtain the ingredients in my local shops which made the book pretty useless. Would not recommend this book as the advice was more common sense with no real backed up evidance.

4.0 out of 5 stars It's All Good but... 28 April 2013
Format:Hardcover
Edited: having made dishes all this week from the book I have added an extra star. The food is healthy and delicious. My two major complaints below prevent five stars. Carrots with ginger, broccoli, alternative to mash, salmon burgers, steamed fish and roast chicken have all been fab!

I wrote a review for 'Notes from my Kitchen Table' which advised people who weren't prepared to pay a lot up front not to bother. If you think her last book expected you to be picking up her Ironman 3 cheque, then don't bother with this one! If you want to make healthy changes to your diet then there are plenty of doable recipes especially if you use your common sense. I'm making my first batch this week and I'm starting with the normal stuff like salmon burgers, herbed chicken, mash without the potatoes, etc and towards the end of the week (when all the fancy misos and brown rice syrup arrives from Amazon - DO NOT USE her recommended websites - the Asian one expects at least £14 if they deign to deliver to you and I've just spent £6 on delivery from one of Amazon's sellers). Another tip: try getting everything from the same healthfood seller. Clearspring's range features in a lot of supermarkets not my local Tesco with any consistency though. Anyway, I digress!

TWO ISSUES WHICH ENRAGE ME (and I'm delighted Graham Norton picked GP on one on his show): ALL THE PICS OF HER! Gwyneth washing her hands, G with her kids, G staring thoughtfully into the distance, G holding some eggs, etc and the AMERICANISMS. She lives here after all - she surely knows what we call things never mind the hassle of conversion charts. Cilantro is coriander apparently. Be prepared for eggplant, zucchini and my favourite - arugula. This money-grabbing rush to market is one reason why I have deducted a star.
