If you're planning on visiting Italy, either touring around or just visiting the key destinations, then I definitely recommend getting this book.
I love the new look guide, the maps have been updated and are much nicer to look at and this was definitely one of the bits that Lonely Planet needed to work on. The layout has been improved so it's easier to navigate the book and it's definitely going to be better on the road.
I am travelling from Rome to Pisa via Naples, Florence, Pompei and Sienna and this book has everything I need to make sure my journey is successful and stress free.
Overall this book covers all the details you need, from getting around to where to stay and more, and I thoroughly recommend it to anyone embarking on a trip to Italy.

This is an excellent guide used it every day, I found the information to be accurate in the area of Italy I visited, the maps were clear and the additional comments were very helpful. I would thoroughly recommend this guide.

Very good comprehensive book which has been recently updated. Things to note: (i) the book is quite heavy and not necessarily something that you want to carry with you all day when sight-seeing; and (ii) region specific LP guides are available which are more detailed and should be considered if you are only visiting certain parts of Italy. As with all LP guides, for sites of particular importance, I would try to independently verify opening times and prices as there were some differences notwithstanding the recent publication. Pull out map of Rome is a useful bonus although numerous free Rome maps were available in our experience.
