The first half of the book is a useful overview of the period, accompanied by twenty black and white photographs of renaissance masterpieces, most notably Leonardo's Last Supper and MIchelangelo's Pieta (pre-vandalism). The second half of the book contains 48 beautiful, full-page, colour photographs (each explained in brief) of paintings which define the Renaissance, many accompanied by smaller photos of other interesting works for the purposes of comparison or illustration of the text.
I'm always drawn to art history books with lots of colour photographs and this book represents outstanding value for money in this respect. The 24-pages of prose are slightly tough going on a first reading but are worth re-reading. Not a comprehensive introduction to the period, but a useful summary.
