I am indebted to Classic FM for introducing me to this CD. The oboe is often a poor relation to the clarinet, but Nicholas Daniel and the Peterborough String Orchestra show what can be done with it. The playing is both lively and sensitive - Baroque at its best.

I bought this CD to replace a damaged recording of the Albinoni. Nicholas Daniel's playing is beautiful, but the oboe doesn't quite come to the fore in the Albinoni. I did not know the Marcello or Cimarosa Oboe concertos; the latter is delightful.

The oboe is a favourite instrument of mine. I love its gentle, rather plaintiff and evocative sound and this CD does not disappoint. It is very pleasing in a simple and almost pure sort of way, easy to listen to and very relaxing. I would highly recommend it.
