This is a beautiful, very varied collection of works from the 17th and 18th centuries, with the earlier period being very well represented. (Stradella, Albrici, Fantini, Pallavacino, Mateis, Mancini, Francescini, Cazzati, Viviani, Correlli and Bononcini).
The playing by Crispian Steele-Perkins and Stephen Keavy is superlative. The works represented here are extremely varied in style, and include the beautiful, subdued precision of the muted natural trumpet, as well as a variety of accompaniments, ranging from the more or less full chamber-sized orchestral line-up to reduced numbers including theorbo, baroque bassoon, and sackbutt, with great bass viol.
A really excellent and very enjoyable, crisp, precise recording of some fine music.
