Kid British? heard of them? I hadn't until early last year when the rumours of the legendary Specials doing a re-union tour started. As the time to the Specials gig at Manchester news filtered through about the warm up act, you know, the bit where everyones ears start to get used to the pounding they are going to have to endure for next couple of hours, time to go to the loo, time for another beer etc etc.
Well, Kid British were Manchesters 'easy act to follow' and so I got my first proper listen to them away from poor quality Youtube clips, they were awesome! tight playing together, good vocals and brim full of energy they were anything but an easy act to follow, luckily the Specials were dynamite as the could have been embarrassed that evening!
The album, well they missed a trick here, the disc should have been released during the tour for maximum impact and they should have released the full album rather than half of it, big groups can mess around like this, rising groups cannot.
The music is very SKA based (even using 'Our House' by Madness as a backdrop to one song) with modern rap style lyrics over some tracks that even I as a long time SKA fan can live with, very catchy sing along stuff and some nice melodies make this an upbeat happy listen.
One outstanding track Kid British have done is Lost in London, brilliant but alas missing from this 'half' of the album but hey, for the price, if you have even a half interest in SKA and young up and coming bands from Manchester then this disc is well worth adding to your collection.
Conclusion: Great tracks, great price, too little and a bit late, just like some football teams eh lads?! Kid British are in the semi's but not quite cup winners yet due to poor management I reckon.
