Made in 1960, this could have been an advert for the American view of Italians in their element, with gorgeous scenery, fabulous colours, hugely animated conversations and beautiful girls, none more so than Sophia, of course. Her singing of the Americano song in the nightclub is something of a classic and the countless gorgeous scenes shot on location in Capri make you want to pack your bags immediately. Having been a few times over the last 20 years, it's surprising how little it's actually changed,
The story is almost irrelevant, as you just lie back and let the whole joyful, amusing and colourful experience wash over you. Anyone who doesn't want to visit Capri after this to visit the Villa del Palazzo Reale has a heart of stone.
It's similar to Three Coins In A Fountain, which has more wonderful Italian travelogue scenery from the 50s, but It Started in Naples is simply more fun.
