5.0 out of 5 stars Local history at its best 16 July 2011

An incredible amount of research has gone into this book, and it really shows. This is a solidly written work of local history, taking in everything from geology and prehistory to folklore and crime. It's an absolute credit to the author, and if you're interested in Shropshire, or simply in what goes into the making of an English county, you won't do much better.

I bought this book to find out a little about Shropshire after moving here. It has lots of interesting facts and stories, while still being an easy enjoyable read - not like some books which overload you with information that becomes too complicated to take in on first reading.
