Volume 3 of Fortean Times' first-hand accounts of weird happenings, and there are no signs of a dip in quality. The sections on subjects that might, ultimately, be as paranormal as buying a pint of milk are mercifully short (spontaneously-appearing water isn't really up there with the Loch Ness Monster, frankly), and the sections that do cover better-known Forteana such as ghosts and UFOs are agreeably chilling. Highlights this time around have to be the section on uncanny encounters and hospital hauntings, (best enjoyed alone at night), and it's also good to see the inclusion of (probably!) purely-mental-though-still-unnerving phenomena such as imaginary childhood friends, and night terrors. Like all the best FT stuff, anyone with an open mind, an interest in "The Night Side of Nature" and a good sense of humour will love this.

This avoids the pitfalls of many equivalent books on the paranormal, which are often self-obsorbed and pretentious. The editor has picked a good selection of stories that are very varied in tone and subject, but all are well written and effective. The section on night terrors, in particular, is splendid.
Highly recommended reading for a rainy day, particularly if an ominous mist is gathering around the graveyard outside your window...

Another great book in the series, full of interesting weird and spooky stories, couldn't put it down once I started to read it, excellent stuff.
