Book Description

1 Sep 2010
A religious fanatic, abandoned by his family when his zealotry got too much to bear, decides they will be reunited, by force if necessary. And so he sets out to fetch them, unaware he is watched by the god he has shoved in their faces all these years. Unaware, also, that this god is amused by his mission and has decided to help; unaware that this ‘help’ will lead in all sorts of unexpected and unwelcome directions; unaware that this god is not a bit how he expected him to be.

Review

A rich seam of earthly delights... celebrates the triumph of love and forgiveness... with charm, in a highly individualistic style. --The Shetland News, 23 January 2011

It comes. It comes by train, with the man who carries all life with him like a sack, a burden of weights. He lifts it down from the baggage rail and it drops heavily onto the seat then the floor and smashes open, spilling all content, all life and woes over the floor of the carriage. Things roll under seats and are found by children clambering over each other to get at the elusive and shiny treasures skittering past them on their way, rolling rolling rolling to who knows where.

5.0 out of 5 stars Uplifting novel 26 Jun 2012
Format:Paperback
I found "It Comes" to be a delightful read from start to finish. The descriptions of the characters, their moods and motives is first-class.
As others have written, it is a timeless tale that could apply to any country or culture in the western world. It was very difficult to put down and felt like it had life of its own.
A story about letting go of emotional baggage and the effects it has on others when we choose to keep it or let it go. I'd put it up there with Paulo Coelho's "The Alchemist".

I really enjoyed 'It Comes'... it's a story told a little bit like a folktale about an old man who is full of anger and who goes on a strange and wonderful journey... will he manage to reunited with his family after years of estrangement? The book manages to be both spiritual and funny and earthy all at the same time... with fantastic descriptions of food!

Format:Paperback
A unique and surprisingly moving odyssey from despair to redemption and finally joy. Well worth a read, and a re-read. Quite an achievement for a first book!
