This is excellently written and compelling reading, with a dark twist at the end. My only reservation is that - when compared to other Kindle items - it's short for the price. Nevertheless, it's small price for a good read.

This is not my usual genre but I'd read an extract from his new novel on his website and enjoyed it, so decided to see what else he'd written. Imagine a touch of Edgar Alan Poe blended with Neil Gaiman's humour and you get a slight essence of this story. Very witty, very well written and very unexpected: also strangely moving. I now intend to download his novel, Northman.

Issue 49 (Dark Shorts)

This horror short as shocks galore and surprises too, the twist at the end is not exactly what you're expecting but is far from a letdown. It's detailed, believable and acceptable for the horror genre. J D Hughes shows he can turn his creative to many genres and I would recommend this to anyone interested in the 'twist in the tale' stories along the lines of Roald Dahl. I look forward to more work from J D Hughes.
