cannot praise this book enough. I rented a car and went to Jerusalem, The Galilee, The Golan, Tel Aviv and the Dead Sea. And this book made the trip what is was. From the secret view of the Dome of the Rock from the old Islamic college on the Via Delarosa to the unreal restaurant in the Golan ("Witch's Calderon" i think - in Nimrod).

I'm normally a great fan of LP's excellent guides and have used them widely. As a result I was a little disappointed in this guide: there's an unnecessary political bias at times and several errors in the details about locations/maps. It's still a competent guide, just not as good or user friendly as some of their others.

I have always preferred Lonely Planet guidebooks over the alternatives and this one did not let me down.
We just returned from a fabulous trip to Israel/West Bank and this guidebook was with us every step of way. We visited many of the restaurants they recommended in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv and found the practical information EXTREMELY useful.
If you are considering this guidebook on a future trip to Israel than I would wholeheartedly recommend it.

Lousy guide, strong pro-Palestinian bias
This guide reads like it was written by a 19-year-old who was handed a 'free Palestine' pamphlet and based his political views on that. It has a not-too-subtle anti-Israeli bias. Read more

The missing territories
I was disappointed by this book. I no longer have my copy of the earlier edition, but my memory is that it gave far more information on the occupied territories. Read more
