Product Description

Product Description

Procrastination is a frustrating habit, but it can also disrupt our health and happiness. 'Isn't it about time?' explores and explains why we put things off. The book is full of useful ways to overcome procrastination, and to create a more satisfying, exciting and productive life. Andrea Perry is an experienced psychotherapist who recognises that if people could 'just do it', with or without fear, they would. She describes how we need to develop trust in our abilities to follow our own logic into satisfying action, and how procrastination is a strategy to compensate for significant gaps in this process. She shows how to identify how you block your natural tendency to be effective and creative, and how to build on your strengths and give your tendency to procrastinate something better to do. Accessible and practical, illustrated with humorous and pertinent cartoons, 'Isn't it about time?' provides a rich variety of ideas which help you overcome delay and accomplsih what you need and want to do - today, not tomorrow.

5.0 out of 5 stars Isn't it about time, 29 Jul 2002
By Cyndi Hill (South Gloucestershire, England) - See all my reviews
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. It opened up for me many aspects of procrastination which I had not previously considered.
It is written in a style which is both entertaining and accessable. At times it made me laugh and appeared to be quite light-hearted, but this only reinforced my awareness of the skill of the writer, as she takes us through the 'procrastination spiral' and then offers help and suggests possible solutions to overcoming problems, thus revealing an in-depth knowledge of her subject. This knowledge she shares with the reader in a way which makes you feel very able to relate to what she is saying.
Reading this book has certainly made me look into the many ways in which procrastination can affect our lives without perhaps us being aware of it.
I recommend this book to everyone, even to those who think they do not procrastinate - you may be in for a few surprises!

5.0 out of 5 stars A book for our times; constructive and empowering., 26 April 2002
By A Customer
When I first came across this book; my first instinct was; will I have time to read it?

I'm glad I did as it has provoked me to get on and
do the things I've always wanted to do but never had the time ( or so I thought ).

I like the general approach which is constructive and informative, with lots of anecdotal and personal references.

In the course of reading this book, I have noticed that a lot of my "projects" have been realised. Others have been discarded, never to be resurrected.

I have found a new sense of purpose in my attitude to my work and greater committment and understanding in my relationships with people on every level.

I have much more time to tackle the challenges of today and and look forward to tomorrow with more optimism.

Andrea's book is a rewarding read, and a pleasure to recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars Insightful, funny and filled with practical solutions., 28 Mar 2002
By A Customer
I found this book both well researched and easy to understand. The anecdotes and examples given feel familiar and help to bring the problem of procrastination to life with great warmth and humanity.

I particularly like the Action Spiral and the way in which the author has used this to illustrate the varying stages within which we may procrastinate. This has enabled me to be more specific about where, when and why I procrastinate, helping me to personalise my solutions and coping strategies.

In this book Andrea Perry has given us an insightful new language to understand how "putting things off" can damage our quality of life.

I continue to find myself dipping in and out of it's pages, accessing its wealth of practical solutions and the support embedded in its pages that comes from feeling someone understands you.
