Product Description

Book Description

A collection of hilarious satirical news stories from the incredibly popular ezine, Newsbiscuit.

Product Description

John O'Farrell presents over two hundred almost-true news stories from Britain's leading satirical site, including Charity Launches Guide Dogs for the Late and Teenagers on Work Experience Banned from Air Traffic Control.

Remember where you were when you heard that the fifty-year rule was abolished fifty years ago? Or the news that dolphins stop smiling the moment our backs are turned? It's all in this handy book-shaped collection which brings together Britain's most exciting new comedy writers and the talents behind such shows as Have I Got News For You, Spitting Image and Lead Balloon.

From Sainsbury's Launch New Gullible Range to Ryanair to Charge for Emotional Baggage, this hilarious journey through the year represents the very best in topical comedy from the website that the New York Times declared was Britain's answer to The Onion.

'The funniest book of the year from Britain's funniest website,' says TV's Robert Mugabe

'If this book doesn't win the Booker Prize I will personally nut Melvyn Bragg or whichever ponce is in charge this year,' says former soccer hard man Vinnie Jones.

OK I'm biased but... 14 Dec 2009
Format:Hardcover
For the record, I'm one of some 50 regulars who spend part of most of their days submitting spoof news stories to NewsBiscuit and hoping against hope to get the coveted front page once in a while. I wasn't among the contributors here, since this book is what alerted me to the website. But still, interest declared, this is a classic of self-generated, very English humour with a recurring in-gag about the Isle of Wight. Impossible to explain abroad, you either get it or you don't and inevitably the quality varies, but it is still side-splittingly funny on occasions. FWIW, the standard on the website (www.newsbiscuit.com) is even higher. Then again, I would say that wouldn't I?

A near miss 9 Sep 2009
Format:Hardcover
The idea is sound enough and sometimes the virtual reality stories hit the funny-bone, but too often for me, they weren't quite on the money ie too self-consciously clever at the expense of the humour.

Utterly brilliant 13 Mar 2009
Format:Hardcover
I live in Canada. It's March, cold, slate-gray skies, everyone's suddenly poor. And as usual, the nation is humourless. So I had to import some jokes, bought this wonderful book, and now I am out of bed and actually pondering washing myself.
NewsBiscuit has been a boon online. I once donated money to the site, I was so grateful to get a joke out here in my homeland.
Thank god it is in book form. I read it in the wee hours, frozen by insomnia and I am comforted.
Brits should know that I didn't just buy the book at criminal exchange rates; I also paid for Deutche Poste (weird, eh?)to deliver the book from Britain for an extortionate fee. Well worth the folding money.
Canada needs a laugh. So it got a laugh. I am one laughing Canadian.
My favourite joke was "Global warming: World leaders agree 'to cross that bridge when we come to it". That was good. Also Ryanair charging for "emotional baggage."
Did not get joke on cover. What is Ceefax? Why is Isle of Wight so excited to get it?
Cheers,
Heather Mallick
