Jura Superstition is a whisky that I've wanted to try for a good few years now. I was lucky to find it on offer in my local supermarket for £22 back in February, yes you read that right £22!

So why the superstition and not a different Jura, a whisky friend of mine has long since recommended the superstition as the best one to go for when you factor in the price and the experience on offer, obviously tasting whisky is a very subjective thing to each person so you can only take that advise so far. He said avoid the entry level Origin completely as he felt it was too young.

First thing to note is i love the shape of the bottle which is unique to Jura whisky, it has a cork stopper and comes in a presentation box. This whisky is bottled at 43% (alcohol by volume) and does have caramel colourant in it.

---------------------------------
My personal tasting notes

Nose Neat: Instant sherry with mild spices, raisins and faint smoke

Taste Neat: Initially you get a nip on the tongue from the alcohol which quickly recedes. I then got white pepper, lemon zest, honey and smoke with a mild sherry note in the background

After adding a teaspoon of water and waiting 10 minutes:

Nose: The sherry intensifies on the nose and so does the raisin note

Taste: Much better now water has been added, Sweet Sherry with honey and a lemon tang remaining in the background, smoke has weakened.

Finish: Very spicy with the sherry note lingering in the background along with the smoke.

Verdict: I'm more than happy with this whisky, it's not the most complex whisky known to man but it doesn't claim to be. With water this whisky really does settle down and the sweet sherry note really does pronounce itself. I intend to purchase more when i see it on offer

This is quite simply the nicest whisky I have ever tasted - incredibly smooth with a gorgeous, distinctive peaty taste and aroma. It is very drinkable on its own, with water, or with mixers/in cocktails - yet it is not bland in any way. It will be the only whisky I will consider buying going forward. Try some, you'll love it!

Update April 2014: What a pity that amazon have stopped selling this product directly, typical.

I love a good whisky and am particularly fond of the heavily peated and smoky output from the island of Islay. My personal favourite being Lagavulin, which is probably the most strongly flavoured whisky on the market. Recently we had guests visiting from America, and knowing that my love of strongly flavoured whiskies is not shared by everyone, I thought I would try Jura Superstition as a more gentle introduction to malt whisky for the inexperienced.

What a wonderful decision. Superstition is dangerously quaffable. Although it certainly has significant flavours of both peat and smoke, these are wrapped in a very well rounded experience that has an almost sweet finish. A single ice cube or teaspoon of water is more than enough to bring the full palate out in gentle warmth that has absolutely no edges. While it may lack a little of the character so prevalent in Islay whiskies, it is however still full of flavour and makes a wonderfully enjoyable after dinner (or before) drink.

Wanted a specific whiskey and found this. It was exactly what I ordered and not too expensive either. Great to be able to find unusual spirits.

To me this whisky it's well balanced, deep, warming, smokey, and spicy. If I could sum it up it's like being in a hot bath on a cold day, and having one of those Spicy Cinnamon Christmas candles burn away in the background! However if your not into Peaty tasting whiskys, I'd give this one a swerve! I first tried this at the restaurant on Loch Ness, I was given a good measure for free as it was the bottom of the bottle and I just adore it :)

very oaky as was said in the review, not quite to my taste, but wanted to try it,, It came with excellent packaging and was delivered in time, if you like a mellow peaty oak taste in your dram, I would recommend this product to others, and I would have no hesitation in buying from this seller again

Very nice whisky. Sweet popcorn and caramel, with a touch of butter, then a lightly salted smokey hit, followed by a very subtle smokey sweetness which lasts. A pleasure to drink and also a great introduction to peated whisky.
