Product Description

Newly installed superintendent of the Virginia State Police, Judy Hammer, and her right hand and confidant, Andy Brazil, are at their wits' end trying to protect the public from the politicians...and vice versa.

And amid the mayhem, an island off the coast of Virginia declares UDI, claiming its independence lies in the history of America's first settlers, those who set sail from London's Isle of Dogs in 1607.

As a long term fan of Patricia Cornwell, I bought this book as soon as I saw it. And what a disappointment!

Isle of Dogs is definitely not up to Patricia Cornwell's usual standard. The plot is too complicated, and not adequately developed. The characters are two-dimensional and uninteresting. At no stage did the book improve - I found this it really hard going from start to finish. Frankly, I was bored!

Buy this only if you are a die hard Patricia Cornwell fan, and really cannot wait for the paperback!

Would this book have been published if it hadn't been written by Patricia Cornwell? I doubt it. It was the biggest load of rubbish I have ever read and I feel I have been ripped off by the publishers.Cornwell's books are usually superb - this is awful. It's supposed to be funny, and you can imagine her giggling at her own jokes, but noone else is likely to!

Awful 18 Oct 2001
Format:Hardcover
...I've been a huge Patricia Cornwell fan and have all (except the cook books) of her titles. I even pre-ordered via Amazon to ensure I received Isle of Dogs promptly. I needn't have bothered. To say I was disappointed is putting it mildly. If there was humour I must have missed it, all I noticed were talking crabs, fish and dogs that could type ... how stupid does Ms Cornwell think her readers are. There was no suspense, plot or believable characters, including Hammer and Brazil. Come back Kay Scarpetta and a bit of reality.

Very poor - not recommended
I am quite happy with authors departing from their normal style/characters. This is just an awful book. I am surprised the publishers allowed it through. Read more

How low can you go?
I read the 3 Andy Brazil books against advice from more than one person. I wanted to see for myself if they really were that bad. Read more

Disappointing
I'm a big fan of the Scarpetta novels, but this book is just weird. Not a thriller, not a comedy.

The copy I have doesn't have any quotes from the press on the fly... Read more

This book was a huge disappointment from an author I have always enjoyed. She has tried her hand at comedy - which was not a success - and sacrificed plot, character, pace and... Read more

Awful, boring, waste of paper...

I am a fan of the Scarpetta novels, but the Hammer/Brazil stories should never have made it past the Editor's wastebin. Read more
