Island In The Sky documents the events that led up to the building of the International Space Station in a precise and clear manner, yet despite all of this, it is almost a story from start to finish. As with the best fiction book, this story had me gripped from start to finish despite the fact that I already knew the eventual outcome. I was not aware of how greatly dependent the International Space Station was on other factors, be it political, historical, diplomatic and those that were left down to sheer chance. The story tells the history of space exploration with an aim to clarify how the international space station came into being.
The only small factor that might have let the book down, although this may partially be due to my own expectations, was the lack of technical detail within the book. Despite this, the book is a thoroughly engrossing read for anyone interested in space.
