This is a fantastic book. It's so compelling that you forget you're reading a story set at some unspecified point in the future. It follows the ups and downs of a draft-dodger as he goes on the run from the authorities (and there are some truly memorable downs!) There's an anti-war message in this book, but unlike many such novels, it doesn't over-do this... it simply delivers a page-turning tale with some really fascinating characters.

The Island of Lost Souls is a thought-provoking read - and a particularly well-written thriller.

It's based in a country involved in an 'international war'. Sound familiar?

The main character avoids the draft, escaping to an island off the mainland, where he finds solace and trouble.

I like particularly his relationship with his soldier brother in the early part of the novel.

A novel about an individual's rsponse to his country being at war. Very good.
