Format: Hardcover
Worth it for the pictures alone, particularly the stunning cover photo by Donald McPherson, Isabella looks like a bird of prey challenging us to look her.
Family, friends and colleagues have written short personal reminiscences about her style, how they met, her sense of fun, and her work; her talent and passion for helping new artists whose work she loved. It's like a picture book biography, and then you realize that none of these books would have been published if she hadn't died. Martina Rink, who started her career as Isabella's assistant, has collected some wonderful moments from Isabella's life, and I guess probably like her life, touched with some sadness.

'The fashion world has changed so much since we first met in 1984. It has become so global, corporate and, yes, publicity driven, in its outlook. Yet Izzy never forgot what was really important: that at its best, fashion is all about discovery, and inspiration, and creating magic. And that is why none of us will ever forget her.'
(Anna Wintour original text from memorial speech. From Isabella Blow by Martina Rink)

'behind her sense of humour and self mockery there was still a little child hidden: vulnerable, insecure - and just looking for love and acceptance.'
(Stephane Biesenbach from Isabella Blow by Martina Rink)

'Growing up with Isabella was incredibly exciting. Without her, life is like a stage without a star.'
(Julia Delves Broughton from Isabella Blow by Martina Rink)

A book full of stunning photos and touching personal letters dedicated to the style icon that was Isabella Blow.

She was famous for her outrageous fashions, and for having discovered and nurtured some impressive creative talent during her time as a fashion stylist at Tatler and Vogue in London and New York. She bought Alexander McQueen's entire collection while he was a still a student, launching his career. She was a client and muse to the milliner Philip Treacy, known for his extravagant hats.

Though not what generally would be called "a beauty", Isabella was certainly striking, full of personality, and this comes across in the photos in this book.
Iconic portraits have been contributed by some of the greatest photographers in fashion, including Mario Testino, Rankin, Donald McPherson and Richard Burbridge.
Personal letters written exclusively for this book have been contributed by legendary names in the fashion world, from Valentino and Anna Wintour to Manolo Blahník and Naomi Campbell, and from artists such as Tracey Emin and Noble & Webster whom she inspired.

The woman who emerges from this portrait is both bold and eccentric, humourous and tragic. A truly creative individual, whose greatest creation was her self.

This is a very sentimental and private review/homage to Isabella Blow; but if you are into her style and dynamics this is an interesting coffee table book. Which is in some ways is a bit sad as she didn't strike me as a coffee table sort of girl. But it has beautiful images and some interesting dialoge.

Lovely memories of "Issy" 29 Sep 2010
By T. Beasley - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
This book is presented as a collection of letters written to Isabella Blow, after her death, by many who were fortunate to have the opourtunity to work with, and know her.
She has always been a fascinating personality, and I just hate that she had to die, for such admiration to finally find it's way to print...
Still, I am greedy for the number of books coming out just now about her, as she was a truly remarkable creature!
This book contains photos, illustrations, impressions, images of Isabella from those who lucky enough to find themselves, at some point, in her orbit.
Many are famous and their names familiar. Others, persons of interest, that I found myself "Google-ing" to learn more about.
So many photos I had never seen, and I've been an "Issy info stalker" for quite some time.
Beautiful oversized volume, great photos, lovely sentiments...
I just wish Issy was here to see it!

Fascinating Life 21 Mar 2011
By Ria Darling - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover Verified Purchase
I bought both this and the book by Detmar Blow and of the two I think I prefer this one, mainly because it is objective and his, while very well written and with wonderful photos, doesn't really say much this one doesn't. However, I read this one first so that might be it as well. Rink does fantastic research and puts the story together well, and I don't think it's an easy story to put together with Isabella's manic behaviour. On the whole I would suggest getting both books to get the total feel for her life but to read this one first because it will provide some background and objectivity that I don't think the other has. Both have great (and different) photos of Isabella. What a loss-she was amazing.

A Great Gift for the Hat Enthusiast or Milliner in Your Life 9 Jan 2011

I bought this book for a friend for Christmas and she just loves it. We took private millinery classes together for a year with Jill Pfieffer in Los Angeles and learned about French Room techniques as well as hearing about the icons and advocates of this disappearing craft. I had never even heard of Isabella Blow, or of her influence on modern millinery, before Jill and my friend told me about her. Additionally, my friend treasures this book because she feels it is a very beautiful tribute to this unique and very inspirational woman.
