Product Description

One of the funniest and sweetest gay romantic comedies in years, Is It Just Me? delivers a refreshingly witty take on one gay boys search for Mr. Right. Cute, but unaware of his adorableness, Blaine (Nicholas Downs) cant seem to meet guys, let alone form a relationship. His beefy and promiscuous go-go boy roommate Cameron cant understand why he doesnt pounce and enjoy some one-nighters. Instead, Blaine hides in his room and searches Internet chat rooms for a kindred spirit. He may have found one in the form of Zander, a shy recently relocated Texan. But when the time comes to exchange photos, Blaine accidentally sends an image of his hunky roomie and the budding romance takes a confusing turn! This case of mistaken identity escalates when Blaine begs his roommate to go out with the charming, sandy-haired Zander. When it seems they hit it off, our lonely hero feels love has passed him by again...or did it? Full of witty charm and cute boys, Is It Just Me? is a bona fide feel-good winner!

I just want to start by saying it's nice to see a new gay film with some real talent to it. Yes the cast are very attractive and this does add to the film's appeal but the acting from Nicholas Downs and especially David Loren are a joy to watch. Not since Shelter have I found it so easy to suspend my disbelief and submerge myself so fully into a piece of gay cinema, not once did I sit there and question whether I might be watching the efforts of a sixth form media studies class. That's why personally this film goes right up there in my top three gay films.
Now don't get me wrong I'm not saying this film has the potential to redefine gay cinema it's only difference from most other films out there is it's quality. The storyline, the idea of an online identity mix-up and the humorous consequences, reminded me of Eating Out 3 except where Eating Out 3 only really provided an hour or so of campy fun this film provided something deeper and overall more filling. The story was well written and I found myself identifying with Blaine and his insecurities while also laughing at how far he let the mix-up go. As a young gay man who has not only found dates through bars but also through online dating I loved seeing this means of socialising being shown in a positive light for once instead of just a means for gay men to have sex or even worse a place for people who can't get sex to socialise.
For me the main highlights were David Loren's performance as Xander and not just for being incredibly gorgeous, he really sold the sweet, adorable texan musician persona and I found myself constantly looking out for each little facial expression and mannerism they were so adorable to watch. And the other highlight was definitely Bruce Gray as Ernie, Xander's older gay landlord. Ernie was definitely the funniest character in the film and it was nice to see a believable gay father figure being portrayed on screen and even better that he wasn't shown as just some lecherous older guy which is a stereotype too popular in gay culture.
Overall this film was just as good if not better than most mainstream romantic comedies out there in 2010 and definitely deserves a watch.

I loved gay comedies such as Eating Out and A Four Letter Word but I really think Is It Just Me? surpasses them all. It has all of the tried and tested elements - cute guys, witty script, mistaken identities etc but it takes all of these stock elements and gives them real heart. We actually care about the characters and want to see them realise their love whilst laughing with them along the way. It's just an enjoyable, feel-good movie which may not be troubling the Oscars any time soon but for pure entertainment it can't be beaten. Loved it!

This is a gay `comedy' that has been written and directed by J.C. Calciano, who is more famous for his US TV work (The Steam Room Stories etc). It is about Blaine (Nicolas Downs), he is a writer for USA ToGay, and as a non scene gay, he is finding it hard to meet `Mr Right'. His house mate Cameron, is a hot go go dancer who has the opposite `problem' of having to beat off guys with a toilet besmirched stick.

Blaine then gets talking to a guy on an internet chat room, and he sounds like he might be the one. This is a young very handsome Texan called Xander (David Loren), who also writes his own songs. They decide to meet but there is trouble a foot when Xander checks out Blaine's profile and the irascible Cameron has uploaded his picture and has hi jacked Blaine's profile.

So the scene is set to see if personality will win over a hot bod and with a less than casual attitude to rampant bedroom trysts. So is it actually funny? Well that depends on what you find funny obviously, this is more warm than laugh out loud. I actually really like it and found all of the characters engaging. Blaine does have the least sympathetic `fruit fly' ever, but mine is similar in so many ways (i.e. man and sex mad). This is a gentle yet warm film with no real sex to be wary of, just some simulated phone sex and a lot of off camera innuendo, so not one for any `adult entertainment' aficionados' out there.

With a run time of ninety minutes it manages to keep the pace and interest going for the full time. But as I said earlier not really that funny, but more a film, on the leaves you with a smile on your face, rather than giving you a hernia from excessive mirth. So for a nice easy gay story that does have its moments this will make for a good evenings viewing.

awful film
bad acting, lame plot, does not really flow and not much of a story. Almost confirms the worst sterotypes that exist. Better films elsewhere

Not funny at all, or Is It Just Me?!
This movie is not funny, mostly it's kinda sad. It tries desperately to be something special, but fails miserably. Read more

it's not just me, it's hubby too!
This movie is painfully bad. Truly, madly, badly. Badly written, badly directed, badly acted. Waste your money if you must, but don't waste your time!

Sweet & entertaining
This movie will put a smile on your face at several occasions. The sweet storyline and 'non over the top' acting makes it a suitable movie for these cold winter days.
