great for the novice without prior Ironman experience 29 Mar. 2009
By Timothy Harward - Published on
Format: Paperback
Ironplanner is a comprehensive review of how to prepare for your first Ironman competition. It is cornacopia of information for the individual who has no clue what the event entails, the amount of training required, the expenses incurred and most importantly, it provides details of how one should organize ones time to perform sufficient training to finish ones initial Ironman event. I have performed 3 different events and truly wish I had had access to such a planner as I prepared for my first event. It would have prevented me from making some of the elemental mistakes all "first timers" make. This planner is not the end all do all in training but The Ironplanner provides an excellent starting framework onto which one can begin to build their own specific Ironman training/ preparation schemes. I would highly recommend it for anyone, like the author, who is about to embark on the journey that leads to completion of a crueling Ironman triathlon.

Fantastic book for the Rookie Ironman 3 Jan. 2011
By Joshua M. Wexler - Published on
Format: Paperback
I just got this book for Christmas and read it last week. This is a terrific book for someone with zero to even some knowledge of triathlon preperation. I've been doing tri's for a couple years and have done one half ironman. After reading this book I had no idea how ignorant I really was of all that was needed for a race of this magnitude. With how much money you are going to spend on the race, this book is a tiny drop in the bucket and worth its weight in gold. There are about 20 pre-designed worksheets available online for you to fill out. Everything from what to pack in your transition and special needs bags, to how you're going to visualize your day, to nutrition journals, etc. At the moment the website they list doesn't work, but I emailed both the book author and the person who runs the website( and asked for them and I got responses from both of them. They are in the process of redoing the website which is why they weren't found. Both of them are very friendly.
I can't recommend this book enough and highly suggest it, especially if you're a first timer. You don't want to miss anything for a race like this and I don't think it's possible if you really use this book.

Great book for the OCD triathlete! 18 Jun. 2009
By G. Kloeppel - Published on

This is a rather complete manual on preparing for an Ironman. Not a training manual, but a book with spreadsheets to make sure you have all the extra "stuff" you need to have a good race. What to put in special needs bags, how to mentally prepare, what to do with family and friends, etc. I will fill out a lot of the spreadsheets that they provide so I can forget about those aspects of the race and focus on training. If you want to make sure the details are taken care of, buy this book and follow it!

Great Ironman Planning Source 16 April 2009
By Kurt R. Adams - Published on
Format: Paperback
Although probably geared toward the first time Ironman competitor, the book offers many ideas and resources to help even seasoned multi-sport athletes plan their Ironman training and Ironman event. Triathletes in general are always looking to shave time, streamline, and get the latest best information. I found that the Ironplanner provides the necessary tools to organize the lifestyle that is essential to compete and complete an Ironman event.
A must have 27 Oct. 2014

I am a triathlete, but I am fixing to do my first Ironman. I have some idea what I need to do for my race as I have volunteered for many races. However, this book is filled with information from nutrition, to organizing your support team, to what you need to do for training, and so much more. I actually feel even better about my journey to this epic race! I think everyone who wants to do an Ironman whether it is their first one on twentith one should get this book!
