Product Description
It is used as a lawn conditioner,and moss killer. 1 Kg of Iron sulphate will treat 1000 sq metres using a solution of between 1% (10g/L of water) and 5% (50g/L of water) - (apply at a rate of 10 sq m per litre of diluted solution).
Industrially, ferrous sulfate is mainly used as a precursor to other iron compounds.
It is a reducing agent, mostly for the reduction of chromate in cement.
Used in the manufacture of inks.
It is used a mordant for wool dyeing.
Ferrous sulphate can also be used to stain concrete and some limestones and sandstones a yellowish rust color.
Woodworkers use ferrous sulfate solutions to color maple wood a silvery hue.
In horticulture it is used for treating iron chlorosis (yellowing of folliage caused by iron deficiency). Although not as rapid-acting as iron chelate, its effects are longer-lasting. It can be mixed with compost and dug into to the soil to create a store which can last for years.
Ferrous sulfate is sometimes added to the cooling water flowing through the brass tubes of a turbine condenser. It forms a corrosion-resistant, protective coating on the inside of the tube.
It has been applied for the purification of water by flocculation and for phosphate removal in municipal and industrial sewage treatment plants to prevent eutrophication of surface water bodies.
It is used as a traditional method of treating wood panel on houses, either alone dissolved in water or as a component of water-based paint.

The product (ferrous sulphate), being a chemical, needed to be well packed - and it was; and I liked the pamphlet that came with it suggesting different concentrations for different useages. It was priced very competitively and it arrived promptly. It was clearly of good quality because it has proved very effective. After its use I then watered the lawn with my own general fertiliser to encourage the underlying grass to grow and take control. This has proved to be a good combination.

Brilliant as a lawn moss killer. Much better results than I have ever achieved with the granular three in one treatments that I have used for many years. No doubt I will have to reseed quite a bit, since my lawn was a moss paradise.
