3.0 out of 5 stars Dose Of History discouraging, but good read., 30 Jun 2009
I am currently reading this book and have not yet finished. however, i am so annoyed by a certain aspect of it that i just had to say my piece straight away. I love dennis wheatley and i am currently making my way through the black magic stories as i find them interesting. I thought that the devil rides out was brilliant and i enjoyed to the devil a daughter to a lesser extent. This book "The Irish Witch" has a good story but wheatley goes into BLINDING detail about the war. he rambles on for the guts of a chapter sometimes about dates, generals, commanders, of the 1800s and it is COMPLETELY irrelevant to the story. i love history but at times this feels likes a history text book. Then there is the matter that at times the book could be an erotic novel. It is sex driven in a lot of places. this coupled with the boring history and then flicking to the black magic story gives a strange fragmented read. I still like the story though.Worth reading if you can get over the boring war bits.
