Book Description

15 May 2008 Made Easy
An exciting collection of 29 traditional tunes from Ireland, arranged for easy mandolin. All tunes are written clearly in standard notation as well as mandolin tablature. An accompanying CD contains all the tunes, played at a manageable speed, with guitar accompaniment. The collection contains airs, well known songs, polkas, slip jigs, slides, double jigs, hornpipes and reels, all of which are specially arranged by the author with the beginning/intermediate mandolinist in mind. On the CD, the tunes are played 2 or 3 times, so you can really get into the feel of the tune, when playing along. The speed of the tunes is quite slow, but not so slow as to take away from the essential feel of the music. Irish music is rightly popular all over the world. The haunting beauty of the slow airs and infectious foot-tapping rhythms of jigs and reels are here to be discovered in this selection of great traditional music.

4.0 out of 5 stars Irish Mandolin Made Easy 8 April 2011
Easy to follow fun tunes for Mandolin. Although I am new to playing Mandolin (have played guitar for several years) I found this book easy to use and the CD a great aid.

5.0 out of 5 stars Irish Music fo Mandolin made easy 16 Sep 2011
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I am an older beginner on the mandolin and am finding this selection really enjoyable. All the tunes are lovely which, as another reviewer said, start really slowly, and gradually move up a gear in speed and complexity as one works through the book. The recordings are good with guitar accompaniment,so that I feel as if I am playing in a group. The discipline of playing along is useful as it makes one think and play more quickly.
As already mentioned the tunes are mostly played twice, occasionally three times through with repeats,so one has time to enjoy playing the music and work on tricky bits without going back to the beginning all the time. Highly recommended.

Very pleased with this book. Contains some nice tunes, starting with slow airs through to faster reels. Great for starters like me. CD tracks very useful to play along with. Great value for money.

4.0 out of 5 stars A nice selection of songs, well presented. 27 Nov 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I like this book as a nice introduction to Irish folk mandolin. It starts with simple tunes and gets trickier. It has a CD with backing guitar which enhances your enjoyment to play along with. It's also good that it shows you the guitar chords as you're playing, so that you can start to develop more complicated play yourself, and slip into improvised backing mode yourself if someone is singing or taking the melody line. Each song is given its own page which is a good format - not too bunched up, and no page-turning mid tune. Why not 5 stars? It was close but I'd've liked to see the tempo marked on the music (you can of course figure that out quickly from the CD), and perhaps the lyrics too would've been good. As always with songbooks etc, I also would prefer a ring-binder. But generally I am very happy with it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Makes it easy 16 July 2013

Very clear tablature. Tunes played slowly and clearly. Some of the jigs and reels look daunting for a novice, but have been adapted here to make them playable from the start. Great book, perfect for beginners.
